Acting As Functional, the songwriter from Buckinghamshire is creating a buzz with the latest playlist ‘Adams mix’. The immensely talented writer has delivered a playlist with five diverse pieces of music that are making a sensation. The excellent presentation is winning the hearts of listeners quite quickly. Recently, we got the chance to have a chat with him and this is how it went –
DMR: Hello, Adam Stevens aka Acting As Functional. What would you like to say about the response on ‘Adams mix’?
Acting As Functional: I am not a singer or musician and consider myself a song writer. I have been told my music is for a joyful gathering. I was told it is fun.
DMR: Would you like to share your journey of writing the songs of this playlist?
Acting As Functional: I want the listener to make their own judgment on the journey of these songs.
DMR: What has motivated you to come up with these write-ups?
Acting As Functional: Being alone and being in love. My song lyrics in Parachute “Id need a parachute in case I had a change of heart” is about wanting to give up but knowing life is a gift. Its about the need for a adrenaline rush to feel excited about living rather than existing. I was reflecting on feeling lonely compared with being in love. It’s about the past and the present.
DMR: You have worked with Raven on this musical project. How has been your experience?
Acting As Functional: He is a poet.
DMR: What has inspired you to become a songwriter?
Acting As Functional: When I became mentally unwell I lost my grasp on what was real and unreal. In my song my lyrics reflecting on my mental illness “were you laughing at me when you saw me through a window in a zoo”. This describes how I felt in the past.
DMR: You have worked with several music genres. How did you manage to work with various genres?
Acting As Functional: I have been into a couple of professional recording studios but I do find I am more comfortable working on my lyrics and songs at my own place. I use computer software to build instrumentals and then record my voice and do my level best to mix them. I am songwriter not a singer.
DMR: Are you willing to work with different genres in the future?
Acting As Functional: Yes I am open to people who would want to collobrate.
DMR: You have come up with some interesting concepts. From where did you get the inspiration?
Acting As Functional: I have written about life experiences and how I feel at the time, and included Ravens feedback in creating the finished sound recording.
DMR: Are you currently working on any new project?
Acting As Functional: In my spare time I am always trying to create a instrumental, lyrics and ideas. It’s something I enjoy doing.
DMR: When are you going to deliver your new music project?
Acting As Functional: I would like to release this on more music platforms. I would need to re record the tracks possibly.
What might be the idea for your next work?
I am having singing lessons to improve the quality of my voice. If you listen to three pieces of fruit there’s potential for my voice to sound better if I re record others.
DMR: What might be the idea for your next work?
