Anchen Ji Weaved Love and Hope into the Mellifluous Tunes of ‘Wait It Out’

It is a mark of the most sublime artist when one puts their heart into musical strains that resonate deep within the soul of listeners. Such is the case with the adroit music virtuoso Anchen Ji, who has recently released her latest single Wait It Out. The song is inspired by the real-life events of the artist’s life; she used to love a boy but had to experience major obstacles like long distance and age gap, and finally, the boy decided to call it quits, while the artist wanted him to wait it out. The verses inspire hope in the listeners and if the love is real then all obstacles can be overcome, augmented by the optimistic and touching pop voice of the artist. She collaborates with her college alumni Chengcheng (Troy) Tang and Tyller Bolton to create this magical piece, which is now available for streaming on Spotify along with her other masterpieces, like ‘Stars’.

DMR: Hello and welcome to Daily Music Roll! First of all, the heartiest congratulations on the release of your song ‘Wait It Out’. How are you feeling after achieving such a major milestone?

Anchen Ji: I feel very happy. This song reflects my true feelings. I love this song.

DMR: The song is inspired by the real-life events of your life. How did you first conceive of the idea of sharing your story in the form of music?

Anchen Ji: I use music to express my feeling, because it is hard for me to speak out.

DMR: When did you first get acquainted with your musical soul and what inspired you to choose vocal performance and music business at Berklee College of Music’s online division?

Anchen Ji: I started learning vocal performance at Berklee Online from 2021. At that time, I had great changes in my life, I want to sing as I always want but doesn’t have time to do it ever. At Berklee, I found my own passion about music. I live in Boston area. My home is within 20 minutes of Berklee campus.

DMR: Could your share with our readers the earliest memory you have when it comes to your tryst with music?

Anchen Ji: My mom loves to sing at home when I was very young. Her voice is sweet. I have a sweet voice too.

DMR: The entertainment industry, including music, is notorious for its cut-throat competition and for being especially harsh to newcomers. Were there any major stumbling blocks that you personally had to overcome when trying to start your career as a singer?

Anchen Ji: I don’t feel any blocks. I’m grateful that a lot of people helped me all the way to where I am now. I think it follows the natural bliss and comes out as it is.

DMR: An emerging singer, scientist, and mother to a lovely child, how do you divide the time and juggle between these massive and diverse roles that you play?

Anchen Ji: I try my best to balance my work, family and myself. My work, my kid, and my music are very important to me. Luckily, I’m working from home 80% of time. It saves me a lot of travel time.

DMR: You have undergone some major life-altering events recently from getting a new job to your divorce. What turned out to be your source of happiness and hope during these highs and lows?

Anchen Ji: I think I always have some fun things to do, which keep me happy. I consider my work, my kid, and my music as fun things. Singing helps me forget about worries and I enjoy immersed in the music. During the highs and lows, let it be, and not force them to go. Then follow the natural bliss. If I can aliquot a period of time to sing, that will make my day. I try to lower the ambitious goals to reduce anxiety, but work as hard as I can and focus on the process. As long as I do my best, I’m happy with whatever the results are.

DMR: Tell us about your experience working with your college alumni Berklee alumni Chengcheng (Troy) Tang and Tyller Bolton on “Wait It Out”, and what do you believe to have been the key factor in making you a great team?

Anchen Ji: I feel great to work with them. This is the second time we worked together. We previously worked on my first single. We are a great team. We have different strength: vocal, producing and songwriting. We complement each other. The key factor is we are good people and we want to make good music.

DMR: ‘STARS’ is a romantic story of two star-crossed lovers and has received much love since its release. Can you apprise us of the events that inspired the song?

Anchen Ji: “Stars” was inspired by my divorce. Me and my ex were married for more than 10 years. We had a great time previously. It express my feeling of pity of how love had changed and hope the true love will never change. I hope the true lovers will be together in the end.

DMR: As a veteran in the field, what would be your advice to those who wish to dip their feet into the industry but aren’t sure how to begin?

Anchen Ji: I think it will be good to go to music school or take professional music class to learn music knowledge, which will save you a lot of time. Select a music school close to your home or learn remotely online, like I did at Berklee Online. You will meet a lot of classmates and teachers who will expand your network and gain a lot of resource.

DMR: Can you give us a whiff of any recent project that you might be working on at present?

Anchen Ji: Troy, Tyller and I are working on my third single now. I just have an idea of the song: love in parallel spacetimes. This is at an early stage. Please be patient with us.

DMR: What is that one thing that you wish people to take back when they listen to your music?

Anchen Ji: I with people feel relaxed, happy, energetic, and dance with my music. Feel the positive of life. True love will overcome any obstacles.
