Currently busy with a string of music releases from his debut EP ‘Quarantine’, the Brooklyn rapper and music producer CrisisKhan took part in an interview where we talked about his expectations from his fans and his ambitions in the music industry. This time he came out clear about his struggles, dreams, and creative inspirations that pushed him to take the hard way of producing his first EP. He is a lyrical genius who tried to outshine the typical rawness of east coast style in the album. Well, let’s dive into the main conversation right now and have a good time.
DMR: First of all, thanks for the interview. How are things with you over Brooklyn?
CrisisKhan: Great, I love my city I’m just staying hungry and productive through this pandemic. I have faith the city’s going to bounce back even stronger from this.
DMR: Nowhere is safe right now. Does the recent camper van blast concern you?
CrisisKhan: Not really, I feel you should only be concerned over things you can control. all we can do is make the best decisions we can with the information we have and fight through whatever comes our way.
DMR: Enough with attacks and safety hazards. Let’s talk about your first ever EP. ‘Quarantine’ is out now. How excited are you about the whole thing?
CrisisKhan: It’s a start. A step in the right direction and an experience I needed to improve and learn how to really prosper as an independent artist. I’m already looking forward to and my next project will be even better.
DMR: Finally the first solo project is out. Whom do you want to thank for making it happen?
CrisisKhan: Before anything, I have to thank myself for having faith in me and investing in me because if you don’t do that no one else will. I’d also like to thank all the dope producers and artists that contributed to the project.
DMR: You have got a distinct style of making music. The way you blend the raw east coast vibe into your writing and execute it in bohemian west coast style, it gets spontaneous and groovy. How did you get the idea for such a unique approach?
CrisisKhan: I’ve been developing my style over the last couple of years and experimenting and I think I just stumbled upon my sweet spot I love east coast rap but I love west coast beats so the blend is something I’m still perfecting.
DMR: When is the first time you ever performed publically?
CrisisKhan: That would be at an open mic in Florida back in 2016 the whole team came out and we had a really fun night entertaining the audience once I got that taste I knew for sure I had to continue on this path.
DMR: we are aware of the musical heritage that runs in your family. We are curious to know who was the first person to inspire you musically?
CrisisKhan: I honestly can’t say anyone I know inspired me I’ve always been self-motivated one day I was listening to music the next day I was just like… I can do this too… actually I think I can do better and I just started from there.
DMR: How young were you when you decided to take music too seriously?
CrisisKhan: When I was about 13; I would literally write any chance I got. In class, during lunch, when I got home, everywhere.
DMR: How often do you perform at gigs?
CrisisKhan: It’s been slow since COVID started I’ve been more focused on educating myself on the music business and becoming a better producer and engineer so I can completely master my craft as a musician instead of just being a rapper.
DMR: Your new single “Zone” has hit one million streams. How are you feeling about this success?
CrisisKhan: I love it, I love the support I’m receiving from the fans it feels good to be felt and appreciated when you pour your soul into something.
DMR: What does your debut EP represent?
CrisisKhan: It represents a plethora of experiences I’ve had in my life both good and bad. I tend to have a very strong influence on the people around me and my mentality is one that doesn’t mesh well with today’s society so when I’m out in public I feel like a virus myself but at the same time quarantined cause most people just don’t understand my vision and distance themselves.
DMR: Are you working on any upcoming projects? What is the inspiration behind your next presentation?
CrisisKhan: Yes, I’m working on an EP titled “SexMoneyWar” and it’s a representation of my lifestyle and why I go by CrisisKhan.
