Some music artists are able to resonate with the hearts of the listeners and Damien P1 is one of the top of them. This talented and multifaceted music artist is all set to drop his upcoming single ‘Palm Springs’ and there is high anticipation in the market. The song is beautifully crafted, marking another milestone on his highly progressive musical journey. We thank the artist for sharing a few words on his way.
DMR: All the best wishes for your upcoming track ‘Palm Springs’! Tell us something about it.
Damien P1: Palm springs is that song that takes you on a journey. A journey that all genders and nationalities can relate to. Because love lost and love that could have been is something that many may have experienced at some point in their lives
DMR: The musical arrangement is absolutely on point. How did you come up with it?
Damien P1: I wanted the listener to feel as if they were inside of the world of this song. You know that song that you can envison the video just by hearing the song.
DMR: The lyrical approach in the track is quite romantic yet emotive too. Is it a reference to an incident in your personal life?
Damien P1: I take bits and pieces from all of my daily experiences. Sometimes my songs are things that has happened to close friends family members and random strangers. But Yes Palm Springs is a personal story.
DMR: You have a remarkable voice. How do you brush up? Did you receive any vocal training?
Damien P1: Thank You. I grew up in the church that was my only formal training. And as a child when other children were outside playing I was playing moms vinyl. One of the 45s That I played daily was Barbra Striessand “People” the jackson five I want you back and moms extensive Nancy Wilson collection. So a great deal of my training was listening to the greats and the encouragment from my mom who saw that this was something I loved so she allowed me to spend hours listening and learning from the greats male and female singers on my little red jukebox.
DMR: You helped you pursue your passion in music?
Damien P1: My mother first and then later on professionaly. A few great men in the industry Trevor Gayle Rufus Blaque Tony DoFat And prince charles alexander. I am grateful for these men collectivley. 0ne thing they all have in common was their love of music. And thank goodness I learned from these men who are musicians and not social media made famous people. It’s a diiferent experience when someone is driven by the love of the music and not the social media likes and numbers. With my mentors it was always music first.
DMR: Name some of your creative musical influences who inspired you.
Damien P1: Many of the women I grew up listening to heavily influenced me. There are some amazing male vocalist but when a women tells a story with a song its something magical about the delivery. So many of my first music experiences. Were from the singers that mom loved. Nancy Wilson Aretha Franklin Natalie cole Dinah Washington. The only male artist in our home she played frequently was Marvin Gaye. So My influences were the musicians I first had access to. Before I began seeking out my favorite voices years later.
DMR: What are your plans for release this year? Please shed some light.
Damien P1: My goal with Palm springs is a live listening event with my core supporters close friends and family. In an intamite setting. I am going to perform more live events in the forthcoming months.
DMR: Would you like to collaborate with any music artists in the coming days? Who comes to your mind?
Damien P1: As far as producers Baby Face Salam Remi Mark Ronson. For artist Alicia Keys I feel she and I would create music for the heart and soul together. I get her and she will get me in the studio. Neo and Bilal.
DMR: What is the biggest obstacle in the modern music industry?
Damien P1: The fact that everyone has access to the music machine. The amount of music the average listner has to digest just to get to the musicians who live and breath music. Makes it harder for the consumer to choose its like going into the candy store all the packages look good the display is beautiful and attracts you. But the inside may not be that great once you experience it.
DMR: Is music your full-time career? What else do you like to do when you are not working with music?
Damien P1: When not doing music I am writing and shooting short films. A few of my shorts have gone on to win a few awards for best short and a few other awards for emerging filmmakers. I am currently pitching my first scripted series.
DMR: Tell us something about the goal that you want to achieve through your music career.
Damien P1: I honestly am ok with my music reaching the people places and spaces. That get the singer songwriter who is creating music from their hearts. Not for the social media likes or everything else that comes along with it. I mean I being able to provide from your music is the goal for most artist. But If I could provide as I have done over the years and create quality meanigful music. The rest wouldn’t ever matter to me. Like many of my early mentors have taught me. For a true musician it is always music first when you love the music.
DMR: Is there anything you share with your listeners?
Damien P1: Thank You in advance for listening and supporting my music. I am aware there are millions of emerging artists streaming daily. But some of us create music for the simple fact that we love music and it is the fabric and bloodline of our existence.
