DMR: Aside from your tryst with music, you have devoted yourself to improving the health and quality of life of people with special needs. What were the factors that drove you towards this cause?
Damien Postell: I believe that everyone desrves to learn the benefits of healing holisticaly. My buisness partner and I are both passionate about sharing our teachings with. Individuals with speacial needs a population that is often excluded in many things in life.
DMR: You have worked in the health and mental hygiene field with individuals with traumatic brain injury to individuals with autism and behavioral challenges. Can you share with us some of the experiences that had a massive impact on you?
Damien Postell: Working with people who have special needs is rewarding on so many levels. It humbles you and you realize how precious the gift of life truly is.
DMR: How did the idea for Journey2Healing Retreats first come into the picture and what was your vision for it?
Damien Postell: I was inspired by these photos I would see of my beloved grandmother may she rest in peace. In this photo she and other family memebers were living their best lives. On what looked liked a beautiful resort surrounded by trees and nature. This place was owned by a black man named pegleg bates. This man created a space were blacks could come and enjoy the beneifits of clean air and nature. In a time when there where no other places for blacks to experience this type of life. I was so inspired I would look at those pictures daily and for hours at a time. I use to say Nana when I grow up, I want to have a place like this. She would say baby there ain’t nothing you can’t have if you put in the work to get it. She was my biggest supporter and role model. So, although our journey to healing is unique it will promote health and wellness. The inspiration was from those family photos that planted the seed in my mind.
DMR:“Journey2Healing Retreats exist for these believers seeking healing.” Could you elaborate a bit on what that means?
Damien Postell: Our space will be a space that promotes healing holistically with the sun healthy foods exercise and movement as the source of our natural medicine. I and my partner, Yahhilla Yisrael of Shining Star Yoga & Wellness Inc. are not anti-doctors or anti-medicine. But we do believe that healing comes from the things we consume and the life choices we make during our lives. So, with that being said our retreats will be a place where others who believe in the healing powers of eating healthy and overall wellness practices can come and learn ways. To heal set recharge and leave with the skills to assist them on their journey to healing.
DMR: Is there a particular age group or section of people whom you recommend to take a trip to Journey2Healing Retreats?
Damien Postell: No, our retreats will be for the entire family. We will have some adults only retreats and events. So that parents can reset recharge and lie their best lives. In a setting amongst other adults.
DMR: Do you have any pet peeves about the holistic healing industry? If yes, what would that be and why?
Damien Postell: My biggest pet peeve is a brand or a person who exploits people for money with claims of instant healing. As I said in previous sentence. We will never bash the medical profession or doctors. But will always promote healing holistically.
DMR: Can you provide readers with a sneak peek of the projects you are working on currently, and what can be expected from you in the near future?
Damien Postell: Launching our first retreat and opening the doors to. The Individuals first academy for individuals with special needs and their families. We currently are in between spaces as we search for a permanent location. We have partnered with a few agencies that allow us to facilitate our workshops until we have a new york city locatio. At present we utilize my space in the catskills regions for speacial planned events.
