Promising singer-songwriter from Ontario, Canada, LYFE has become a popular name in the country and the world because of his incredibly unique soundscape. Armed with his unparalleled creativity and storytelling ability, the brilliant musician is all set to release another hit song ‘LESSONS’ on major digital streaming platforms on May 7th, 2021. The multi-talented artist was considerate enough to take some time off his busy schedule to do an interview with us.
LYFE revealed his truest thoughts about his upcoming single ‘LESSONS’ with our team. He also talked about his future plans and gave us some untold details about his life.
Daily Music Roll : Give us some introductory details about yourself and your musical background?
LYFE : I am a 20 year old Canadian singer/rapper who grew up in a small town in northern Ontario with a dream. I have been recording music since 2017 but only started taking my craft serious this year. (2021) My family is very musical, however they’re more into the acoustics. I, however, took a liking to modern hip-hop instead.
Daily Music Roll : Where are you from and how popular are you in your area?
LYFE : I’m from Timmins Ontario, Canada. I don’t have much traction in my city right now as this is my first drop since mid 2020.
Daily Music Roll : What is the subject matter of your impending single ‘LESSONS’?
LYFE : “LESSONS” is an introductory track, setting in stone my intentions, and how I could never let up until I have the game in the palm of my hands. “I gotta go:racing_car:”
Daily Music Roll : What is the primary inspiration behind the song and how does it affect your rhythmic style?
LYFE : The inspiration behind the song was my motivation to do something big with my music. It gave the beat a quicker tempo, and in my personal opinion I think the track benefited from it.
Daily Music Roll : What kind of melodic strategies did you use in the creation of this impeccable symphony?
LYFE : The melodic strategy I used for this song particularly is called “top lining”. Basically, I “hummed” a bunch of random melodies on the beat until I found something catchy. Once I found that, I wrote the lyrics along with the melody I had in mind and it all came together.
Daily Music Roll : What message does the track convey to the listeners?
LYFE : The track conveys a message of self-discipline, and it was written to give listeners motivation to get sh*t done.
Daily Music Roll : What is the one thing about your music that separates you from your contemporary artists?
LYFE : My sound is very different. I built my SOUND myself from the ground up. I learnt how to mix, and once I found the plugins that I really liked, I stuck to them. I like to add different sound effects in the background and melodies to diversify my sound. Some people love it, some can’t stand it. But that’s what music is about! Very subjective. I pray everyone rocks with “LESSONS”!
Daily Music Roll : Who are your musical inspirations and how do they impact your musical pattern?
LYFE : My musical inspiration is my friends, honestly. Yes I look up to people like Drake, Tory, Lil Skies, etc. However my artist friends are really the ones pushing me and making me want to improve to one day be able to help them.
Daily Music Roll : When did you first start singing and songwriting?
LYFE : I started writing music when I was a little kid. I would write down everything I felt on paper to help with my anxiety. One day my mom showed me an Eminem & Rhianna song called “Love The Way You Lie” and I was instantly hooked on hip-hop. I have been singing/rapping since 2016, when me and my buddy Jordan started free styling to random YouTube beats in the car.
Daily Music Roll : Are you an independent artist or are you working under a production house right now?
LYFE : I am currently an independent artist with some minor label backing. They help me with releases and nothing more. I am independent.
Daily Music Roll : What are your plans for 2021, will you be doing any stage shows?
LYFE : For 2021, I plan on growing my brand, getting more traction, while making and releasing some music people can relate to, or use to better themselves, or just to workout in the gym! I just want to create for the people.
Daily Music Roll : Is there any advice you would like to give to the newcomers of the genre?
LYFE : My advice to newcomers is to always keep learning. Even when you think you know everything, you don’t. Hip-Hop especially is such a broad genre that you really need to do some digging and try a bunch of stuff before you release your first song.
