Talented and upcoming music artist Ericka Howie has released her debut single titled “stay like that“. The song brings a cheerful vibe for all the listeners streaming it on Spotify. Well, today, we have got the chance to have a conversation with the artist about her musical journey and the new release. We will also be discussing about her musical inspiration and future prospects. So, without delaying any further, let’s proceed.
DMR: Which name would you like to promote your work in?
Ericka Howie: Ericka Howie
DMR: Describe the thematic and musical linearity of your soundscape.
Ericka Howie: The theme and the soundscape is meant to reflect a spiritual awakening of our childlike selves. It’s set in the mountains where the silence around us is almost deafening (the building vocal harmonies) but with the rhythmic bass-line and drums to mirror a constant pulse or heartbeat to connect it to our realities. The guitar sections directly mirror the lyrics in parts (shivers through my body) and additional lyrics + (bird) sounds you hear are meant to take the listener on a journey through the hills/forests.
DMR: What are your new releases?
Ericka Howie: My first single – Stay Like That
DMR: Where do you hail from?
Ericka Howie: Chennai, India
DMR: Are you associated with any record label or production house?
Ericka Howie: No
DMR: How important are live gigs in the career of an artist?
Ericka Howie: Very important if you want to be seen and heard but mainly because it adds to the joy of being an artist. I’m yet to meet an artist that doesn’t enjoy performing.
DMR: What is the responsibility of the audience in the expansion of music and artists around the world?
Ericka Howie: To support artists either by going out to watch live shows and/or just spreading the word about something they truly love. Identify an artist’s vision and purpose and go along on the journey in whatever capacity they can.
DMR: Which old-school and new-school musicians inspire your work the most?
Ericka Howie: The Beatles, Toto, Yebba, Jacob Collier, Tom Misch, Dodie, Lake Street Dive
DMR: Do you think the music industry will change its course post 2020?
Ericka Howie: I think it’s already changing in so many ways thanks to the pandemic. I think a lot of artists are realising they don’t have to put out heavily produced music to be heard but instead be as real as they can so they can be relatable to the listeners.
DMR: What are your upcoming plans?
Ericka Howie: The plan is to write, record and release my music and work my way towards possibly landing some live shows to spread the word. I’m also working on becoming a better producer because I believe the world needs more female producers.
