The LA-based singer and songwriter Sophie Summers revealed her latest alluring pop track ‘Push Comes 2 Shove’, the magnificent artist kindly stopped by to talk all things creativity, influence, passion, and inspiration. Here’s the full conversation –
DMR: It is a real pleasure to interview you Sophie Summers, thanks for the opportunity! For those new to your music, what first inspired you to get into music?
Sophie Summers: Church choir of course!! I wanted to feel like an Angel of God as a child! Professionally, however it would have been my ex fiancé multi platinum artist Austin John Winkler of Hinder. We met and wrote music together and toured the US!
DMR: Share the back story of creating the pop masterpiece ‘Push Comes 2 Shove’. Talk about the creative process of it.
Sophie Summers: Creative process of this song was pretty much me and a tack writer friend chatting about a mutual singer we knew and had worked with that I broke up with. Doing some tarot, talking about the universal changes and about how amazing it would be to write a song that would call out narcissism with the past breakup issues. I wrote this song the night of a full moon in Leo 2022 how fitting! Lol. He gave me a cool track and the rest of the song lyrics were written the same evening!
DMR: How easy or difficult has it been to break into the pop music scene – what has been the biggest lesson for you throughout your musical journey?
Sophie Summers: It was mostly difficult getting in to the music industry all together during the time I wanted to. When I met up with singer songwriter Austin John Winkler of hinder that’s when we transitioned his sound into pop with my help. We collaborated and wrote 3 pop songs together. Then toured the US on that album. The most difficult thing for me to break into the scene individually, was finding the right producer to help finish my songs with. Now I have found a producer whose just as tech savvy as he is creative. The best lesson has been to work with people of high value that are in it for you.
DMR: Which particular song from your string of gorgeous tracks would you recommend to new listeners, and why?
Sophie Summers: I would recommend Pleasure In The Madness. Not only is it a smash hit, but it was my favorite song of the album…..until I finished the production on Push Comes 2 Shove! PITM is classic lyrics about masculine and feminine energy. It’s got cool Lady Gaga poker face vibes to it!
DMR: What is your biggest ambition right now and how do you handle your success and failure?
My biggest ambition right now is self marketing. I forever have to strive to become more extroverted and become more and more who I am destined to become. I will I have success I’ll celebrate with my friends and family. When I have failures I fully process the emotional pain and turn it into something better!
DMR: If you could share the stage with anyone at all, who would you choose, and why?
Sophie Summers: Myley Cyrus. I love her voice I think she is an incredible female human being! Very bad ass and I love her quotes! “do you things when you feel like it. Because mother nature never hurries and it’s always on time”.
DMR: What are your thoughts on the mainstream hip-hop landscape?
Sophie Summers: I like hip hop and all the new sounds that morph. I’d like to get more in to dance tracks.
DMR: What keeps you motivated to create music and what feelings generally prompt you to start writing new tracks?
Sophie Summers: Making people happy through music is what truly motivates me. Hearing people sing along with a song and lyrics I created especially when you’re singing live on stage and your audience is singing along with you it’s probably one of the best feelings in the world. Giving back. What prompts me to write new tracks is something new in my life that changes that inspires me.
DMR: What is something about your creations that would surprise fans?
Sophie Summers: You would be surprised to know that my album is about toxic twin flame situations and romance. Not too many people understand what a twin flame is!!
DMR: Are you musically trained or self-taught as a musician?
Sophie Summers: I went to a classic music school for voice. Self taught in the profession through experience.
DMR: What is your biggest challenge right now as an independent artist?
Sophie Summers: My biggest challenge right now is an artist is trying to circulate and promote music independently.
DMR: What is your plan of action for the coming year?
Sophie Summers: My album will be complete early to mid year 2024. I’m currently writing new music for after that. Live shows next year!
