Amazing singer, rapper, and hip hop producer Jae Glxy was invited to be a part of the weekly interview hosted by our team where he shared all the minute details of his creativity, new inspirations, and ambition. He talked about what success truly meant for him in the quick session. After releasing his latest EP ‘Lonely Home’, it was his first interview where he talked about how he got involved with the new hip hop project. The fans are about to get ample heads-up about his upcoming releases, tours, and travelogues that were halted for many months. Here is the full conversation.
- Hi Jae Glxy, thanks for taking part in this interview. How are you these days?
I am great, thank you for having me! Lately, I’ve been just locking in at home and working on building more releases and putting out more music but hopefully post-covid I’ll be able to start looking at starting some tours with my collective.
- How does the current situation treat you?
As good as it possibly can for anyone I think. Quarantine and isolation have been a really good way for me to stay focused and reinvent my sound which is what I’ve been heavily focusing on in the last few months. It’s been a lonely time but a productive one.
- What are the necessary steps that you take to cope up with this helter-skelter?
Getting high or drinking and then getting into a creative setting always helps me unstress, it’s a large reason why the room I recorded the EP in is on the cover of the ‘Lonely Home’ project.
- Let’s talk about the new EP you released last month. ‘Lonely Home’, how did you derive this title?
The title came before most of the music did, I knew the kind of sound I wanted going into it and I wanted the ambiance to feel lonely but cozy so I ended up naming it something I thought fit thematically.
- There are a total of five songs in the EP. Which one has got the crown of your current favorite?
I used to think it was 4 AM Shuffle but these days ‘Fire Force’ is always the song I end up appreciating the most.
- What is the theme of the whole project?
Loneliness but not in a way that comes off as a scream for help, it’s a loneliness in its’ coziest form, opted-into loneliness if you will that is more comforting than damning.
- How can your fans relate to the new singles?
I think the themes of being betrayed by friends, feeling isolated and alone, or like no one cares can resonate with a lot of people right now. I hope that some of the people who appreciate my music can find comfort in it that they need.
- It has been a tough time for all the musicians. Any word you want to say that shows your support to the extreme fraternity of independent musicians.
It certainly has. A global pandemic has halted a lot of progress for people especially with the lack of development in the local scenes. The one thing I would say to my peers is ‘keep stacking releases and working on your craft cause when the time comes, that’ll be what matters’. Also, s/o to my collective GraveganG, iLLFaith, Lanky, RainingOnRose, TheRSX, and Myoso are killing it right now.
- Your fans want to know about your intense form of artistry. How have you developed the fathomless passion for hip hop music?
Love for music honestly, I just love it so much that I don’t know where I’d be if I wasn’t pursuing music. I’ve had a lot of different opportunities and avenues but I’ve passed on them all to keep doing this. That’s all I can really say about it.
- What is the source of the euphoria in your music?
Lots of drugs. I’d say my music usually has a depressing or sad tone to it but I know that a lot of the projects I work on under the influence have a more light and euphoric quality to them and I think that duality captures me just the way I’d like it to.
- How do you define a successful artist?
This is so hard, I think about this all the time. I think work ethic and creativity are what make successful artists in the underground. Look at someone like Sewerperson and see how thick his discography is, I think that’s really cool and true artistry. I aspire to be like him and work with him in the future.
- Are you going to perform on tours soon? Now that you have released the new project, what’s your next move- more releases or visiting a foreign land?
More music! I have 2-3 projects being worked on. An EP titled aether body, A full-length album called Drive Me 2 Hell In A Droptop, and a surprise EP that’ll have to wait until later to be revealed.
