The splendid rapper, Jeff Fresh has slain the fans with his uber-cool swagger and a hefty mix of Afro-pop, soul, and hip hop. He has stolen the hearts with the riveting tunes of the tracks from his album ‘Shadow Black’. The Haitian-American musician is based out of South Florida and we requested him for an interview.
He answered in the affirmative during one of his music shoots and we were taken aback by the simplicity of the artist. We congratulated him on his recent success and asked him a few important questions. Here are a few excerpts from the exciting interview:
Daily Music Roll: Who has been the greatest influence in your life to date?
Jeff Fresh: My father and grandparents influence me to be great. They influence me to never give up and always go with my heart and to always believe in myself.
DMR: What made you take this big plunge into the hip-hop music scene?
Jeff Fresh: I consider myself an artist, not just a hip-hop artist. I feel like I am a complete artist who is very versatile. I can work with any producer from any part of the world.
DMR: Which is your favorite genre out of all the genres that you have worked with and why?
Jeff Fresh: I love Kompa, the love, and the positive vibe is what I love about that type kompa sound. As a kid, a son of a Haiti King/Boss I grew listening to “Sweet Micky” and “King Posse” Zoe Boy Till They Bury Me
DMR: Is there any artist from the present generation who has the most enviable qualities?
Jeff Fresh: All the artists on my album each one of them all record amazing quality music with unique sounds. They inspire me and I fucken love it.
DMR: Do you idol worship anyone and given a chance do you want to meet him?
Jeff Fresh: My idol is my Father and Malcolm X those two men created who I am today.
DMR: How do you deal with the incredible adulation that you receive all the time?
Jeff Fresh: I live my life surrounded by positive energy and giving back to my people.
DMR: How do you handle the immense expectations of the crowd while performing live?
Jeff Fresh: I get in a zone where I forget theirs a crowd there. It’s me and the music, the crowd is lucky to s ok ee an incredible duo Jeff Fresh and the music
DMR: Are you driven by an adrenaline rush every time you are on the stage?
Jeff Fresh: Of course, that’s when you know it’s about to be that time to get in that zone.
DMR: How do you manage to steer clear of the very difficult phase during the Covid-19 pandemic?
Jeff Fresh: The Pandemic is the main reason why I got back into writing and recording music. I took some time off cause I didn’t love it anymore. Then my wife started to talk me into writing again and the next thing I know. I got 25 songs done.
DMR: Are you a politically conscious being and does it contributes in any way to your creativity?
Jeff Fresh: In my album, I made it clear how I don’t believe in politicians. Politicians take an oath to protect and serve the same system that is oppressing us. The main reasons some people think I’m too radical but they forgot whose my idol and this Jean Jacque Dessaline Blood running through my body.
DMR: Which according to you is the most happening arena in the entire world to perform?
Jeff Fresh: A stadium in the UK or in Africa
DMR: Are you satisfied with the way things have shaped up in your career?
Jeff Fresh: I love where my career is going especially my private life.
