Our team recently interviewed Klaus Bass and here’s how it went:
Hello, first of all, we wish you all the luck with the release of the new project ‘My Polymerase Chain Reaction’.
Daily Music Roll: For those who are not quite familiar – the group Klaus Bass consists of Michael Graham, Hofner, KorgVolca, and Dave Smith. So, how do you guys gel with each other?
Klaus Bass: apart from me, those other things are MUSICAL INSTRUMENT NAMES haha
DMR: What aspect of your music makes Klaus Bass different from any other contemporary musician or band?
Klaus Bass: Id like to say that I combine a few styles of music that sit in the underground genres of music, so I have elements of Trip Hop, Rave oriented music, and Avant- grade music which isn’t usually in the contemporary field as much.
DMR: What can you tell us about ‘My Polymerase Chain Reaction’?
Klaus Bass: A polymerase Chain Reaction or PCM is a term used in Molecular biology which is the act of copying DNA. Sharing my music feels like my metaphorical PCM, where my DNA is in every song that I produce.
DMR: As we know that you (Michael) have been performing live in various events of Perth. What have you learned from such live performances? Has it brought in any good to your style of music-making?
Klaus Bass: Stepping out of the studio onto the live stage taught me about how to say what I’m saying quicker and more efficiently in a musical sense. In the studio, you can get lost in an idea and try and express that idea in as many ways as you can. Performing live taught me that those bots can be condensed and more enjoyable fr an audience that is out to have fun and not necessarily there to ponder the creative nuances of my music.
DMR: The tracks of Klaus Bass have always been unique and refreshing. What inspires you to make such musical pieces? Is there anyone particular in mind?
Klaus Bass: I get inspiration from the textures of music from different times in history for instance the first track on the new album “Turnpike Blues”. I used old Cassette tape technology to make it sound like its straight from the mid-1980s
DMR: What are your thoughts on the evolution and emergence of the music industry around digital music streaming platforms?
Klaus Bass: It’s a weird time in musical history, everything is cheaper to hear and make but its harder to make a living off doing. I like where it is but it also has its drawbacks.
DMR: What can the fans expect from this new release of yours? And how is it different from your previous releases?
Klaus Bass: its been 4 years since my first album and I’ve evolved technically and musically and id say this release is more contemporary friendly than my first album without still being contemporary
DMR: Which contemporary artist has impressed you the most? Would you like to work with this particular artist?
Klaus Bass: I like MGMT’s latest album a lot and I think it would definitely cool to work with them. Id also like to make beats for someone ridiculously famous such as Eminem. I think he needs to experiment with his sounds more.
DMR: Where does this strength or energy come from that force you towards achieving musical greatness?
Klaus Bass: My perspective on musical greatness is to be able to make something I’m proud of and every album I’ve released has made me feel proud so I guess releasing music inspires me to achieve musical greatness
DMR: Will the fans be seeing you in more live performances in the near future?
Klaus Bass: Yeah I think so If this virus permits me haha
DMR: Is there any other musical project on which you are working?
Klaus Bass: Just the next album. I’m collecting microphones of all kinds and shapes to go for a hi-fidelity album with contemporary acoustic instruments and electric rather than strictly electronic.
DMR: Would you like to say something else to the fans and the global audience?
Klaus Bass: Love it or hate it, thanks for listening!
