DMR: How did you come up with the concept for “Been Everywhere but Me”?

Marc Biala: Funny enough, the concept came from a very real moment of frustration with myself. I realized I had spent so much time checking off everyone else’s boxes and following their “maps” for life that I never stopped to ask what I wanted. It’s like I’d traveled the world for approval but never even visited me. Writing this song was my way of finally booking that long-overdue one-way trip back to myself.

DMR: Do you try to reflect your own self and life through your music?

I’d say my style is a mix of retro ballad nostalgia with a splash of modern soul and a pinch of emotional vulnerability. Think heartfelt storytelling with melodies that make you feel like you’re driving home under a starry sky—deep, emotive, but still relatable.

DMR: How would you like to describe your musical style and genre?

Marc Biala: I’d say my style is a mix of retro ballad nostalgia with a splash of modern soul and a pinch of emotional vulnerability. Think heartfelt storytelling with melodies that make you feel like you’re driving home under a starry sky—deep, emotive, but still relatable.

DMR: Tell us about your creative process behind every song.

Marc Biala: My creative process is like cooking without a recipe—it’s a mix of inspiration, chaos, and intuition. Sometimes it starts with a lyric, sometimes with a melody I hum in the shower. I write whenever an idea hits me, which means my phone is full of late-night voice memos of me mumbling ideas that make no sense until morning.

DMR: Please name us some of your creative influences on your musical journey.

Marc Biala: I’ve been inspired by artists who bring power, vulnerability, and theatricality to their work. Lady Gaga for her fearless artistry, Mariah Carey for her vocal mastery, Queen and Elton John for their timeless storytelling, Engelbert Humperdinck for his emotional delivery, and Aegis, a Filipino band, for their raw, heartfelt performances that resonate so deeply. These icons have all shaped how I approach music.

DMR: What makes Marc Biala different than most other music artists?

Marc Biala: I think it’s my ability to be raw and imperfect while still aiming for beauty. I’m not afraid to write songs that expose the messy parts of life. Plus, as a transgender medical specialist, I bring a perspective that’s uniquely mine—balancing the deeply personal with universal themes that anyone can connect to.

DMR: What are your views on the modern music industry?

Marc Biala: It’s a wild ride, isn’t it? On one hand, we have so many platforms to share music, which is amazing. On the other hand, the pressure to go viral can sometimes overshadow the artistry. I believe there’s still room for authenticity, and those are the artists who stand the test of time.

DMR: Do you think music can bring a change to the society of the world?

Marc Biala: Absolutely. Music is a universal language—it has the power to heal, to challenge, and to inspire. Whether it’s sparking conversations about identity or just giving someone a reason to dance, music has a way of connecting us that nothing else can.

DMR: Would you like to collaborate with other music artists in the future?

Marc Biala: 100%. Collaboration is like adding seasoning to a dish—it brings new flavors you never thought of. I’d love to work with someone who can bring a different energy to my songs. Maybe a soulful duet or even a remix with an EDM twist—possibilities are endless.

DMR: What kinds of obstacles did you face on your musical journey?

Marc Biala: Imposter syndrome has been my constant companion. There’s always that little voice asking, “Is this good enough?” Balancing music with my main career as a transgender medical specialist has also been a challenge, but it’s taught me the importance of showing up for what I’m passionate about.

DMR: What tip would you like to give to emerging artists who are trying to make a name for themselves?

Marc Biala: Be unapologetically you. The world doesn’t need another carbon copy artist; it needs someone who tells their story in a way only they can. Also, remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Keep going even when it feels like no one’s listening—they will eventually.

DMR: Is there anything that you want to say to the listeners?

Marc Biala: Thank you for listening, for sharing, and for letting my music into your life. “Been Everywhere but Me” is my story, but I hope it feels like yours too. You’re never alone on the journey to finding yourself. And hey, if you ever need a soundtrack for your soul-searching, I’ve got you covered.
