OnDaMiKe is one of the most creative and innovative talents in the dance music industry. Known as the pioneer of the bass music movement, the artist has showcased his talent through years of hard work and dedication, releasing some of the best-crafted and enthralling pieces of dance music. His unique blend of classic breaks and powerful bass lines in his musical work is what makes him stand out from the crowd in the industry. With songs like ‘Family Adams – VIP Mix’, ‘Up UpUp – Original Mix’, ‘Love Tonight – B Side Mix’, ‘Bussin’ Ghosts – VIP Mix’, etc., his musical creativity and journey is still a dream for newcomers, highlighting not just his talent but his passion for the genre. We recently had an opportunity to sit with the artist and have a conversation. Here is how it went…
DMR: Hello, how would you describe the very start of your journey? What drew you to this particular music genre?
OnDaMiKe: My journey started with a love for sound and the joy of playing instruments. The creativity and endless possibilities of electronic sounds captivated me and inspired me to dive deeper into this genre.
DMR: Can you talk about some of your early experiences that shaped your sound as a Dance musician?
OnDaMiKe: My early experiences in 90s clubs and record stores shaped my sound as a Dance musician. The energy of the clubs, with their deep grooves and powerful basslines, and the exploration of vinyl in record stores exposed me to diverse sounds and inspired my musical journey.
DMR: Can you walk us through your typical process of creating a record? Do you usually start with a beat, or a melody, or is there something else?
OnDaMiKe: I usually start with a vocal if I find one that inspires me. From there, I build the beat and shape the track around the vocals, allowing their tone and emotion to guide the direction of the music.
DMR: What is your take on experimenting with different styles and subgenres of dance music?
OnDaMiKe: I’m pushing new sounds daily. I’m always experimenting with new sounds and styles. I don’t like to stay locked into one genre or subgenreI enjoy exploring and pushing boundaries to keep the music fresh and evolving.
DMR: How do you approach sound design, especially when you are creating basslines or drops?
OnDaMiKe: When approaching sound design, especially for creating basslines or drops, I focus on a mix of musicality, emotion, and technical execution to ensure the sound fits the track’s context and engages the listener.

DMR: Is there any collaborator that you want to work with in the future?
OnDaMiKe: I’d love the opportunity to collaborate with two of my major influences, Ed Solo and Stanton Warriors.
DMR: Do you prefer DJ sets or live instruments when you are performing live? Or you prefer a mixture of both?
OnDaMiKe: I prefer a mix of both DJ sets and live instrumentation. DJ sets bring energy and seamless transitions, while live instruments add soul and emotion. Combining the two creates a dynamic and immersive performance that keeps the audience engaged and the experience unique.
DMR: What have been some of the biggest challenges in your career as a dance musician?
OnDaMiKe: The biggest challenges in my career have been staying innovative, connecting with diverse audiences, balancing technical production with creativity, and adapting to industry changes while exploring new sounds.
DMR: How do you deal with creative blocks?
OnDaMiKe: I overcome creative blocks by stepping back to reset, walking, exploring new music, or changing my environment. I also try routine creativity, like experimenting with sounds, to keep inspiration flowing.
DMR: What would be your advice to a newcomer in the same industry?
OnDaMiKe: My advice to a newcomer would be stay curious, keep experimenting, and never stop learning. Focus on finding your unique sound, be consistent with your craft, and connect with your audience. Build relationships, stay resilient through challenges, and most importantly—create because you love it.
DMR: What are the upcoming projects that you are working on? Can you give a little hint to your fans?
OnDaMiKe: I’m currently working on some exciting new tracks that explore fresh sounds and innovative collaborations. Expect a mix of high-energy drops, soulful vibes, and some surprises that will connect with both old and new fans. Stay tuned!
