Join the musical ballad with the talented pop artist Starchild. This artist has taken the pop music culture to a whole different dimension with his exclusive song ‘We Have The Power’. As of now, he has only dropped the lyrical video and there is more to come. In this short time, this artist has captivated many listeners and gotten a lot of appreciation from everyone. Recently we got the opportunity to have a chat with him and this is how it went-
DMR: Hello Starchild, your song ‘We Have The Power’ has gotten a lot of positive responses even before releasing the official video. What is your reaction to that?
Starchild: It’s extremely sweet and honoring knowing that its already getting such a positive response from everyone who has listened to the track already. I am really happy people get the message and think it sounds pretty. I am really proud of the art.
DMR: What is your expectation on this track?
Starchild: I don’t set expectations for myself, since they only lead the psyche to be disappointed, and I’ve learned through some therapy and light magic to set goals instead, so my goal for the track, is just to have audiences feel empowered, or just feel safe. We live in a very dark cruel time right now, and I want to put out music that gives hope and optimism.
DMR: How you got the idea of making this song?
Starchild: I got the idea for the lyrics after I discovered the beat. The instrumental was just so dreamy and nostalgic, and the words just started to flow with the beats. And I also assume that I was just observing the state of the world, and feeling a little helpless, so the lyrics kind of just fit really well with the instrumental. I wrote the lyrics in the fall of 2021, so we were still living in a post pandemic world. So, I had a lot of emotions to process.
DMR: Who or what has inspired you to create ‘We Have The Power’?
Starchild: What inspired me to create “We Have the Power” was simply just reflection. I was reflecting on the recent protests that happened the year prior, the woman’s marches etc, and when I heard the beat, it felt very 60s Americana, protest anthem. So I really wanted to create lyrics we can chant at marches. I’m a big believer in the energy and vibrations behind intention-filled words. So I really wanted a track where we can feel the rhythm together and remind the powers that constantly fund mass destruction, and gaslight the working class into thinking they need to be doing more, but it’s our corporate leaders we need to pressure to direct mass funding into the no profits that already exist, that are actively solving problems the wealthy consistently complain about, they just don’t have mass funding to execute the solutions to the mass public. So that’s what really inspired me to create “We Have the Power” I wanted a talking point to be open.
DMR: You make songs about things that no one talks about. How did you start making songs like this?
Starchild: I am just a person in general who has never been afraid to say what I feel, see, and observe. So I write what I feel about what I am observing in the world that goes on around me. And Every time I would speak up, people would challenge my authority, so I learned how to channel my articulation to the writing. And I found a way to talk about serious stuff, over catchy beats, to make the drama of the world, more digestible. But I am big person of action. I love to call to action. And that’s how I write my music. I wish I could just write break up and love songs, but there is so many songwriters that can move you with that perspective, as for me, if I write a love song it sounds cheap and inauthentic, but if I write a tongue and cheek observation piece, I feel the authenticity. So it may look like I talk about stuff don’t normally talk about, but really I’m saying what people are saying on the streets every day, they just don’t have a microphone.
DMR: Can you tell us about your journey of making the track?
Starchild: The Journey of making this track is a pretty dynamic one. I finished the lyrics for the track in fall of 2021, then in January of 2022, I got in the recording studio and my producer, Big Chris Flores, recorded and mix and mastered my vocals. Then I began the production on the music video, but the last location for my 3rd master shot was under construction, so it was kind of symbolic. Cause internally I was under construction too. So even though that halted my music video production, it allowed me to free up some space for more self-growth and development. And by the end of 2022, Tristian Boston, a Grammy award winning producer, discovered me on Instagram, and he cut me a really good deal on finishing my album, and that included updating “We Have the Power” and after he sent the final master, I got to work on creating the visuals. And just last week I was able to finally finish the music video, and here we are in 2023, the single is releasing May 19th with my music video. The Lyric video is streaming now on YouTube, and I just launched my merch store on starchildmedia.com.
DMR: Why did you choose music for your career?
Starchild: Music kind of fell into my lap. I’ve always loved listening to music, but I had zero confidence in my voice and music skills, since all my life I have been training and studying for an acting career. I grew up in Los Angeles and I have been auditioning for television, theatre, and film since I was 9. So music is very new to me. I didn’t start singing until 2017, and I didn’t get inside a recording studio until 2019. In 2019, Big Chris Flores, a very talented producer, discovered my singing videos on Instagram, and he helped me create my first single, “Come to the Sun” a melodic dreampop track about the magic of the sun. And it has been learning as I go from there. I’ve just been learning how to book my own shows, give great performances and network. Then through the pandemic I began just further developing my sound and my album, and just how I wanted to come back to music. And now were here.
DMR: Currently you are a pop music artist. Would you like to try something different in the future?
Starchild: I am very flexible. I grew up listening to pop music, and all the queer icons, and I definitely feel aligned to their showmanship, but I am an alternative rock store in my soul, so yes I love to create within different genres. “We Have the power” steps away from traditional pop and leans more toward Lofi and surf rock, and drop. And I have some west coast RnB lined up on the title track of my debut album, so I definitely like to create within all spaces of music I feel connected too.
DMR: Are there any new projects you are currently working on?
Starchild: Yes! I am gathering all the materials and finalizing dates and artwork for my Debut album. I am already in pre-production for my next music video, and lining up some show dates.
DMR: When we will get to listen to your new song?
Starchild: On April 14th, the “We Have the Power” lyric video drops on YouTube and my website, then on May 19th it will be on all streaming platforms, and my music video will be released the same day.
DMR: Are you planning to go on any tours in recent days?
Starchild: As of right now, I don’t have any tours lined up, I am lining up some shows for the spring and summer season in Los Angeles. But if you sign up for my newsletter on starchildmedia.com, you can stay up to date for any future announcements.
DMR: Is there any message you would like to give to your fans?
