Recently our team had the chance to sit with the artists and engage in an insightful conversation. Let’s see what we talked about …
DMR: Congratulations on the release of ‘The Algorithm’s Anomaly’, what are your expectations from this album?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: Thank you! Our main expectation is to disrupt the typical listening experience and challenge the norms of mainstream music. We want this album to resonate deeply with free-thinkers, inspire consciousness, and create a movement of listeners who value authenticity and abstract, meaningful artistry over algorithm-driven, formulaic music.
DMR: What is the inspiration behind this full-length collaboration?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: The inspiration comes from a shared vision of pushing boundaries and addressing the flaws in today’s music industry. Both Eternal Mind and i have a strong creative synergy. The title The Algorithm’s Anomaly reflects our defiance against the industry’s predictable patterns, aiming to awaken and inspire minds.
DMR: How does this album differ from any of your previous solo projects?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: This album is more experimental and on a way different vibe than my other solo projects. As far as Eternal Mind this is his first fully produced project he has ever released. I truly feel Eternal Minds beats perfectly complement my socially conscious and metaphysical lyrics. Together, we’ve created something that transcends our individual styles—a fusion of Ancient indigenous vibes, Sci-Fi special effects, abstract Hip Hop, Neo-soul and dark ambient elements that neither of us could achieve alone.
DMR: Can you give your audience a little more insight into the creative vision behind the album’s sound and production?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: The album is a soundscape that blends African tribal rhythms, cosmic ambiance, and sharp, poetic lyricism. Eternal Mind crafts beats that feel like journeys through time and space, while the messages within my storytelling grounds listeners in reality. Tracks like “See Me [See My Family Tree]” showcase this vision, combining Afro-Beat and spiritual depth with community/spiritual elder Rene ‘Mama Nene ‘Fisher-Mims’ powerful vocals. This is the only track not produced by Eternal Mind, it was produced by a close friend of ours Ol’ Man Science that shares our vision of being an anomaly.
DMR: Did you face any challenges while combining your different musical styles?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: The biggest challenge was finding the balance between our distinct ways of artistic expression. Something’s about us are similar and other things about us are very different, it’s all about bringing harmony to two unusual styles while maintaining a cohesive sound. Eternal Mind’s abstract production and my smooth-spoken word, sometimes aggressive emcee spit fire delivery required mutual openness and a willingness to experiment. Ultimately, these challenges strengthened the album and deepened our artistic connection.
DMR: How would you describe the creative process of working together on ‘The Algorithm’s Anomaly’?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: The process was both organic and methodical. We’d often start with Eternal Mind crafting an instrumental foundation, and I [Balens Klerede] would then reshape and reform songs I had already written that I felt fit the sound of the track, or I had the concept but not the lyrics that I would write later. Ideas flowed naturally, and we’d refine them collaboratively.
DMR: Were there any specific themes or messages you wanted to convey through this project?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: Absolutely. The album centers around free-thinking, nonconformity, and spiritual awakening. It critiques societal manipulation, celebrates heritage, and encourages listeners to evolve mentally and spiritually. Tracks like “EGAF” that stand for Elder God Air Flow highlight connection we have to the most high source of all and that inner god power that can be tapped in to. Thinking that goes beyond the dogma of mainstream religions.
DMR: What was the most memorable moment during the making of this album?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: One standout moment was recording with Rene Fisher-Mims for “See Me [See My Family Tree].” Her presence and elder energy transformed the studio into a spiritual space. Watching her bring ancient wisdom and vibrant energy into the track was unforgettable and deeply humbling. Also, the Maat 42 session with that ancient, mystical, mesmerizing track that Eternal Mind made that featured Tilita Lutterloh, so elegantly reading the 42 affirmations was so soulfully elevating it took me to another world.
DMR: How do you hope listeners will connect with the music?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: We hope they feel empowered, challenged, and inspired. Whether it’s connecting to their spiritual roots, questioning societal norms, or simply experiencing the artistic depth of the album, we want listeners to walk away with a renewed sense of purpose and awareness.
DMR: Out of 9 independent tracks, what is your most favorite record from the album and why?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: It’s hard to choose, but Maat 42 for it’s ancient mystical feel is up there, Missing Traffic for bringing light to the human trafficking problem that is very important. “See Me [See My Family Tree]” holds a special place for its cultural and spiritual significance. EGAF is so powerful…hahahaha, let me stop, I’m going to end up naming every song on the project, how dare you ask me a question like that and expect me to narrow it down when all of these are precious jewels in their own right.
DMR: Were there any specific artists or albums that influenced the direction of this collaboration?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: Indirectly there are to many musical influences in our subconscious we both could pull up and go through naming names for ever, but our direct the influence comes from us agreeing to build a soundtrack that is fitting to the messages we are delivering to the listener. A sound we wanted to be unique, underground-anti-pop, ancient and futuristic, and abstract.
DMR: What’s next for you both after this album release?
Eternal Mind and Balens Klerede: We’re already brainstorming new projects and hope to continue expanding The Algorithm’s Anomaly into a broader movement. Local live performances, interviews, and a few follow-up albums are already on the horizon as we speak. We’re also exploring solo ventures while maintaining this collaborative energy. The journey is just beginning!
