Canadian rapper and singer AP Dhillon is best known for modern-melodic tracks with ample Punjabi tadka but this time, he decided to come up with an emotionally intriguing song to show his protest through songs.

The ongoing protest for Kolkata Rape and Murder Case has taken a national scale and now it is taking international boundaries with Dhillon’s music project. While millions of people are joining the streets and marching in demand of justice for the 31-year-old trainee doctor; the artist shared a small snippet of the song where he is singing a verse of the track in Punjabi along with acoustic guitar.

It is a well-written song that perfectly captures the emotions of the masses who are marching in the streets as it questions, “Why do we have to march for women to live in peace?” The song also stresses the fact that society has refused to change as these rape and murder cases are common in India. The biggest question that the song represents is the existence of women before safety. The singer asks, “Is being born a girl a curse?”

Dhillon has done a great job in creating this emotionally enriched track in the right situation when the protest needs a voice and this could be it. Women’s safety in India is always questionable but the protestors know that change needs to come and it is inevitable. The RG Kar Hospital Incident in Kolkata is just another example of the overall situation in India and the worst part is that patriarchy and corruption are the root pillars of it.

Music has always been a part of protests that channel the energy of the mass protestors. Dhillon seems to understand that well and the protest inside his heart has found shape through this song. He is one of the most popular Indo-Canadian music artists in the scene now who has successfully created a huge fan base and also made his to the top UK Punjabi chart and UK Asian chart. He might be staying in Canada but he will always stay an Indian at heart.
