Ariana Grande
Like everyone else, Ariana Grande and her producer are equally surprised to see the position in the UK Singles Chart. The U.S. pop star has recently extended her unique record. Ariana Grande and Spruce Springsteen mark themselves as all-time chart greats as their latest project debut at No. 1 in the UK.
Grande’s title track from her sixth and recent album, Positions, shoots to the top of the Official U.K. Singles Chart with having 61000 chart sales that according to the OCC includes 7.6 million streams.
With her latest achievement, the iconic pop star has certainly created a history for her good. She has also seen seven singles debut at No. 1 that extended her record for best selling debuts by a female artist steadily blowing past the five logged by Britney Spears, Madonna, Rihanna, and Cheryl.
Internet Money’s Lemonade that features Don Toliver, Gunna, and Nav was the chart leaders last week but has now slipped down to No. 2, while at No. 3 there is a new entry that is KSI with Really Love featuring Craig David & Digital Farm Animals.
This is supposedly the rapper and YouTuber’s highest-charting single in the role of a lead artist and is David’s highest since 2005’s All The Way.
Now coming to the Official U.K. Albums Chart, Springsteen is once again the boss as Letter To You sparkles at the top, for the rock legend’s 12th leader.
Letter to You did an express delivery by outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined and bagged 51800 chart sales with 95% comprising of physical and download sales.
This is followed by Lady Gaga’s Chromatica (Interscope), which has the biggest opening week, overall for an album in 2020, and debuted at No.1 in June with approximate chart sales of 53000.
However, it is Springsteen to become the first credited solo artist to have a No. 1 album in five consecutive decades, who has topped the charts in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and 20s.
According to reports from the OCC, Paul McCartney, David Gilmour, John Lennon, and Paul Weller have also managed to get featured but only when they included their work in groups alongside their solo materials.
Apart from this, Springsteen is now tied with Madonna on 12-chart topping albums. And, it is only Robbie Williams and Elvis Presley who have had solo No.1 albums in the U.K., with thirteen each.
Along with this, virtual band Gorillaz snatched a sixth Top 5 album with their Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez (Parlophone), which is mew at No.2.
New at No.3 is Southend rock outfit Nothing But Thieves who have the week’s streamed new release and their third studio album named Moral Panic (RCA) secures the third position.
Pop Smoke’s posthumous release Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon (Republic Records) dips down from 2 to 4, while Blossoms have secured a second Top 5 album this year as their lockdown covers effort, In Isolation (EMI) opens at No. 5.
