The American singer-songwriter brought the spooky holiday energy in her ‘Santa Tell Me’ music video of 2014 but seems like it was authentically supposed to go in a various direction though.
The ‘7 Rings’ singer said of the final result, “It was a backup video. We did that last minute with, like, no budget just to have something to put out,” that includes Grande and her dancers dancing around a mansion in their comfy pajamas. She continued saying, “The original video, I was in weird Christmas lingerie and I was hitting Santa with a cane pole. That was something that I was really insistent on. I was like, ‘That is the right vibe for this song.”
Moreover, the ‘Everyday’ singer added, “The label was like, ‘Hey, honey, I don’t think we can use this.’ I’m glad I was reeled in that time.”
In addition to that, Ariana Grande’s original music video for ‘Santa Tell Me’ would have landed her on the wild list. The 30-year-old star said, “Funny story actually,” continued, “It was a backup video we did last minute with like no budget just to have something to put out because the original video, I was in weird Christmas lingerie and I was hitting Santa with a [candy] cane pole,”
The ‘Wicked’ star admitted, “That was something that I was really insistent on,” also added, “I was like ‘That is the right vibe for this song.” Furthermore said, “And the label was like, ‘Hey, honey, I don’t think we can use this.’” Continued saying, “I’m glad I was reeled in that time,”
Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) instantly wondered why the authentic music video was not revealed with the ‘Naughty Version’ in 2015 which quickly gave them an idea for their forthcoming Christmas list.
A fan wrote, “WE NEED THAT VERSION NOW,” Another fan stated on the social media post, “RELEASE THE ORIGINAL,”, and a third one screamed, “Omg it would have been epic.”
However, the ‘Die For You’ singer’s latest video was accused of lifting the idea from another snippet dropped last year by the Australian group SAFIA. The group comprised of Harry Sayers, Michael Bell, and Ben Wonder wrote on Facebook, “This might just be a coincidence but to us, it looks like either the people at Ariana Grande’s label or the filmmaker have seen our clip for ‘You Are The One’ & reworked the concept a little bit and then straight up stolen and copied some bits…(ESPECIALLY THE END!).” The message continues by saying, “Wouldn’t be the first time uncreative talentless fucks from big labels and/or big film firms steal ideas from small independent creatives who are trying really hard to make something different for a change.”
