On Sunday, the sweet sounds of synergy have filled the studio of American Idol. Classic entries have been performed by the Top 9 (plus one) of the season from the Disney songbook.
But first of all, a returning finalist who belongs to the last season has been given a proper moment of wish-upon-a-star. Ryan Seacrest went on to reveal that America has voted for Arthur Gunn who has been the runner-up from last season and he is back into the game with guns blazing. They are also back in the Top 10, just like that.
Before we move on and break down the performances of the week, let us just move to the results straight. Following the two-hour broadcast on Sunday, three finalists have been eliminated from this particular competition. They are Alyssa Wray, Deshawn Goncalves, and Cassandra Coleman. So, the Top 7 is left with Casey Bishop, Chayce Beckham, Hunter Metts, Willie Spence, Grace Kinstler, Caleb Kennedy, and Arthur Gunn.
Caleb Kennedy who is 16 years has said that he is not at all surprised that the particular walking bottle of Nyquil has decided to perform on a track from Cars. He was also very much relieved that he did not do the ‘Life is a Highway.’ Kennedy has added a bit of more excitement to the performance to his credit than most of his tracks in the past. But it was very much the old routine that was given to them every week. Katy Perry also tried to influence and get more energy out of him but there have been very low expectations. Furthermore, Lionel Richie praised him for ‘actually giving us a smile’.
Willie Spence who is 21 years of age was rocking a pretty new do as the beautiful soul kept on dishing out a joyous arrangement from ‘Circle of Life’ by The Lion’s King. It was not at all a jaw-dropping performance as some of the previous performances by Spence but a key change in the last moment and a strong final note has pretty much ensured that they are going to remember the performances for quite a few hours to come. Luke Bryan went on to say that they have just made him feel alive in the circle of life. He has also won the award for making the weirdest comment on that particular night.
Deshawn Goncalves is only 20 years of age and came up with something different this week. He has come up with the jazz-soaked track ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ from the very popular Pinocchio. The opening segment was a bit awkward but the track has settled into a jaunty groove and he was very much in his element. The notes are missing most of the time and at times it felt like that it was not a full-blown performance at the lounge. But the judges at the American Idol were very happy with his performances. Casey Bishop is only 16 and he brilliantly performed on ‘When She Loved Me.’ The judges were not disappointed and the expectations were very high. The vocals delivered by her induced chills and she told a full story on the stage by being the first finalist. The previous performances by her were very vulnerable. Some emotional new pockets were also showcased in her voice with the ballad Toy Story 2. It was a great experience as someone is floating on the cloud unlike those who are on the bedroom wallpaper of Andy.
Chayce Beckham is only 24 and the participant has been raised practically on Dumbo. He is always worried about somebody performing on ‘Baby Mine’. He is always worried about how much he is going to cry. The alt-rock take by Beckham from the 90s has been the most depressing lullaby of the world but as expected it did not elicit as many tears. But the track has been awesome to the ears. Click here to watch.
Alyssa Wray is only 19 and the dress, vocals, and vibes and everything about the performance of ‘A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes’ of Cinderella received a big yes. American Idol loves to update classic songs and Wray has been appreciated for staying true to the period. It was more like a true throwback from Disney more than any other performances from the night. All of it started as a brilliant take on the much-loved princess ballad that turned into a bombastic display of incredible pipes by Wray.
Arthur Gunn is only 23 and treated everybody to a basement performance in ‘Kiss the Girl’ during Disney Night last season. Gunn also came up with a unique take from Coco titled ‘Remember Me’- the movie one must watch immediately. This was a treat of a comeback performance but initially, he was against the idea of bringing someone back from the last season. Gunn was someone who belongs to the stage and it was surprising that he did not make any efforts to impress the judges with the track ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain’ that was secretly a Disney song. Click here to watch.
Cassandra Coleman is only 24 and someone rarely hears a track like Hercules ‘Go the Distance’ that has been performed by the female vocalist. It is a delightful performance and it is very less than an actual wood nymph. Coleman just took a few moments to find her footing but she took off as she arrived at the bridge. She was totally in her element, powerful and confident, and came up with a powerful finish. She also deserves a hero’s welcome.
Hunter Metts is only 22 and is coming up fresh from the emotional lyric flub. He made a return to the stage with his renewed confidence. He has got a sweet and soft take on ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’ from Tarzan which is very beautiful. It has also turned out to be something very impressive. The dramatic incident that happened last week is a great reminder of what the performer has to offer. Click here to watch.
Grace Kinstler is only 20 and the American Idol has saved the showstopper for the last. But even she was not prepared for the performance that is face-melting from Frozen II called ‘Into the Unknown’. The track has equal parts of Panic and Idina Menzel. Kinstler blew the roof of the studio at the disco and gave everyone the best moment of the night with the next biggest moment.
