BLACKPINK Hinted At Hosting A Special Event For Their 8th Debut Anniversary

YG Entertainment had formed BLACKPINK, a South Korean all-female bandwith its members Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa. The band debuted in August of 2016 with their single album ‘Square One’ featuring ‘Whistle’ and ‘Boombayah’ which were their first number-one entries on the Gaon Digital Chart of South Korea and the US Billboard World Digital Songs. Their next creation ‘Square Two’ was released in November featuring a song called ‘Playing with Fire’ which became the first song by a Korean girl group to enter the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. This year will mark the 8^th anniversary of their debut. Although according to Ten Asia, the band will not be active throughout this year agreeing to that statement an official associated with the band has said, “Blackpink plans to focus on individual activities in the second half of the year. Lisa, Jennie, and Rose will meet fans through solo albums, while Jisoo will focus on filming dramas and films.”

However, another source revealed on 19^th June, that the members of the famous K-pop band have been planning to surprise their fans with a special celebrity event in August to mark this milestone in their journey. The debut album is extremely important to the members of the band said by an official so the anniversary of their debut is very much meaningful to the band. An official associated with the band has expressed to Kbizoom, “The debut anniversary is meaningful to BLACKPINK members, so it seems that an event will be held for fans. But, we are discussing what format it will take.” Despite this exciting announcement, the fans of the band are a bit concerned regarding this event due to the disappointments they had to face last year at the hands of YG Entertainment. Referring to the ‘4+1 project’ for the band’s 5^th anniversary which despite the initial promises fell short and disappointed the fans, the fans are expressing skepticism towards the latest announcement. Due to last year’s incident, many fans are now afraid to get their hopes high while on the other hand many fans are speculating theories on social media in hopes of seeing a potential collaboration or documentary announcement as part of the 8^th anniversary event.

Even though there is a lot of uncertainty in the hearts of the fans concerning the special event, there is also anticipation in the mix for this special event. The fans of the band are hopeful that this anniversary celebration will be beautifully apt for marking the band’s journey of 8 years.
