As the holiday season is upon us, the girls of Blackpink know how to keep people fed. As the group members are angling for their crown for the Queens of Christmas, Lisa covers Britney Spears in a new YouTube video. The artist dropped her cover of Britney’s “My Only Wish (This Year)” on Christmas Eve to make the occasion even more auspicious. The group also has big plans for the day following Christmas. The group will be taking part in a virtual-reality concert showcase, “Blackpink: A VR Encore” which is all set to stream on December 26th.
This is not all of the announcements from the group. Earlier on Christmas eve, another member of Blackpink, Jennie directly announced to her fans that she would be launching her label and company in the new year, 2024. While the fans are a little bit disappointed that Jennie’s product comes with delayed gratification, Lisa’s cover of Britney was something they could unwrap immediately. Lisa, who is known for being Blackpink’s primary rapper and dancer, surprised everyone when she covered “My Only Wish (This Year)” by Britney Spears. The singer’s cover of this lone Holiday anthem marked a commendable vocal performance, especially a departure from her usual rapping persona which came as a surprise to her fans all around the world.
“Christmas present for my Blinks… Have a wonderful holiday,” Lisa wrote on her Instagram before dropping her cover on her YouTube channel. The video was accompanied by a romantic, and cinematic holiday-themed escapade shot in nowhere other than Paris, the city of love. This surprise cover revived a Spears original that was originally featured in Jive Records’ 2000 all-label holiday album, “Platinum Christmas”. Additionally, this album also featured top-label artists of that time such as Santana, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera, NSYNC, and R. Kelly.
“My Only Wish (This Year)” covered by Lisa is also the artist’s first solo work since her 2021 release “Lalisa” album, along with 2021’s non-LP single, “SG” with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Megan Thee Stallion. Earlier this year, Lisa appeared as a featured guest on “Shoong!” from South Korean singer-songwriter Taeyang.
For fans who want to see the group in their full action, the virtual reality concert “Blackpink: A VR Encore” is all set to be aired on December 26th, 2023, at 5 p.m. PT on Meta Horizon Worlds. This will also feature the final show from the group’s global 2023 tour in support of “Born Pink.”
