On Wednesday it was revealed that Bruce Springsteen was arrested for DWI and reckless driving in his home state, New Jersey. The incident occurred days after he made an appearance in a much-hyped Super Bowl commercial for Jeep.

A spokesperson for the National Park Service said that the Born to Run, 71-icon was busted on November 14 at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. He was charged with DWI, consuming alcohol, and reckless driving in a closed area. The spokesperson however added that Springsteen was cooperative throughout the process.

As per TMZ, who were the first ones to report the arrest, alleged Bruce has a court date to serve in the coming weeks and has no known prior busts for DWI.

A source informed that the artist’s blood-alcohol content was 0.02 that is below New Jersey’s legal limit while driving of 0.8. According to Matthew Reilly, a spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office in Newark, since the alleged offense took place on the federal land, Springsteen shall face the federal enclave-court Judge Anthony Mautone in Newark most likely via video-conference sometime later this month.

The news came busted just days after Springsteen appeared in a Super Bowl spot for Jeep in which the rock artist implored the Americans to move towards the political middle in the spirit of unity amidst the recent bitter division. However, the ad has since been removed from Jeep’s YouTube page.

A Jeep spokesperson said that it would be inappropriate of them to comment on the details of a matter that they have only read about and so they cannot substantiate. But it’s also right for them to, pause their Big Game commercial until the facts can be established as it’s a message of community and unity that is as relevant as ever. Most importantly, since it’s the message that drinking and driving can never be accepted.

Even though Springsteen has been raised by an alcoholic father, he didn’t taste his first booze before 22, he wrote in his 2016 autobiography.

A source confirmed that excessive drinking was highly out of character for the rock legend and was even surprised when the officer didn’t spare the rock star, especially in his home state.
