The results for the first public vote have been revealed by American Idol this Sunday for season 19. The voting has slimmed down the top 24 and there are now top 16 contestants at this moment. It is not very surprising that the dynamite rocker girl, Casey Bishop who was declared the winner by the judge Luke Bryan, after her very first auditions took place a few weeks ago, made it to the top 16. It very much seems like that the prophecy made by Luke is coming true. This is evident as Casey was seen pulling a page right out of the playbook of the champion from the Season 7 Idol, David Cook.
Just going by the history of American Idol, there have been standout contestants like Chris Daughtry, Constantine Maroulis, and Bo Bice in the earlier seasons. In 2008, David Cook arrived and he was a genuine winner and rocker on the show. He was more of a dark horse but in the top 100 weeks of Season 7, turned out to be an instant frontrunner as he did the fantastic ‘Billie Jean’ by Michael Jackson, and the rock ballad rendition was very much inspired by the 2007 solo cover of ‘Billie Jean’ by Chris Cornell, the Soundgarden frontman. Later on, ‘Light On’ by David was co-written by Chris Cornell which became a top 20 hit, and later on, the show was won by David.
It was a sort of game-changing moment, and there were many rockers like Caleb Johnson and Adam Lambert, who fared well in the Idol. Caleb has tried out with Rusty Cage, by Soundgarden in 2011. But there were no contestants, who performed on the Chris Cornell cover on the main stage of American Idol. This week, Casey went on to slay some Soundgarden and secured her place in the top 12, and also cemented her place in the finale. Casey also has got the potential to win the American Idol show this season.
