Backed by a powerhouse groove and fiery electric guitars, the multi-talented Tampa Bay artist sings: “Sweet but forbidden/What if I take just one bite/Know the grass can’t be greener/Am I losin’ all sense. . .What if I look you in the eyes. . .Will I stop myself/Or will the passion ignite?”
Written by Christin, “What If” was produced by two-time #1 Billboard charting Dylan Ronan at Clear Track Studios in Clearwater, FL.
“The song was inspired by a real-life episode that occurred one night at my local karaoke bar while out with a group of friends.” says Christin. “A fellow male songwriter and I were in deep conversation about life, as songwriters typically are, and he asked me why I couldn’t look him in the eyes, the comment made me uncomfortable. We’d had a couple drinks, and I didn’t like where the conversation might go, so while he was in the bathroom, I left. Within a few minutes he called me confused at what happened. I was honest and told him he made me uncomfortable, that I was married and didn’t feel right so I left. He assured me that he wouldn’t cross that line, but as the conversation went on, I knew that it very well could have. My husband and I would never be unfaithful to one another, but we weren’t in a good place and for a brief moment it felt nice to have someone see me and be reminded that I am worth seeing. And I knew that was dangerous. I knew then how easy it is for people to fall into that temptation.”
“I also thought about a friend of mine who was experiencing trouble in their marriage and had engaged in an emotional affair with someone,” she adds. “I realized it’s so easy in even the most loving relationships when we are hurting and feel weak to open the door open for someone else to step in. That’s the idea ‘What If’ really explores.”
Christin released her first single of 2024, “You Say” a raw and emotional classic country ballad, on February 6. The song is likewise based on deeply personal issues the singer is experiencing in her own relationship. The artist says “I feel drawn to express authentically what is happening in my own life and how the universe is guiding my journey through song. I am compelled to share with the world, to let others know they are not alone in their struggles, but ultimately the process of creating and sharing is part of my own healing and its helping me become my best for the people I love most. I only hope people enjoy the music I make as much as I love making it!”
