Cody Simpson, on his breakup with Miley Cyrus, said, “We went from kind of being good friends and just having a lot of the same friends to being together for a while.”
The Australian singer-turned-Olympic hopeful, 24 said this in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia.
The couple split up last year after dating for 10 months. They were linked romantically for the first time back in October 2019 after Miley split from her brief coupling with Kaitlynn Carter following her separation from her husband, Liam Hemsworth.
Talking about Cyrus, Simpson said, “I’d known her for a long time at that point. She’d kind of acted almost as like a, not as a mentor, but she was always a heightened creative person.”
“We went from kind of being good friends and just having a lot of the same friends to being together for a while”. Cody is currently training to qualify for the Australian swimming team which is a great feat indeed.
Regarding the breakup, he shared, “Everything ended fairly amicably. It was just one of those phases I guess you go through and you learn a lot from it.”
When asked about their son’s past relationships and whether they supported his choices, Cody’s mother shared with a laugh and without naming anyone, “Some I were. He had some lovely girls. We’ve had some interesting rides and dinners at different people’s places.”
Apart from Miley, Cody also dated Gigi Hadid, Lindsay Lohan’s sister, Ali in 2018 and is also rumored to have dated Kylie Jenner in 2011.
Currently, he is in a relationship with model Marloes Phtevens. He began dating her five months after splitting from Cyrus.
After the breakup, Cyrus told publicly that they are working individually on themselves.
She said, “For right now, two halves can’t make a whole. Don’t make it some drama story if next week we hang out and we’re getting pizza. We’ve been friends for 10 years, and we’re going to continue to be friends. Just don’t make it something that it is not.”
