Coldplay took the stage at Global Citizen Live as the headliner of the concert’s New York leg this weekend performing their latest single, ‘My Universe’ which is in collaboration with K-pop band, BTS.
BTS was not physically present at the concert. However, during the course of the performance, they were featured as holographic representations in the backdrop. Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay took the stage singing the track in both English and Korean. There is also a rap section of the song. During this time, Chris took a break from his performance while the section was performed by BTS through a pre-recorded clip. The song was hugely liked by the audience. Coldplay also performed a rendition of their hit single, FIX You’ The performance was also joined by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas.
The track, ‘My Universe’ came out only last Friday on September 24. The song is also set to feature in Coldplay’s forthcoming studio album called ‘Music Of The Spheres’. Martin told in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that the band’s experience working with the Korean pop group was joyful.
Martin also shared, “I love them, and we love them, and it’s been such a joy. It’s something you could look at so cynically, and we have at times, but anytime there’s actual communication or music between us, it just feels so good.” He also said, “So, I unabashedly and unashamedly feel really grateful for the song, grateful for the person that inspired the song, and grateful for the people we sing it with.”
The track is co-written by both the bands and is a celebratory track epitomizing the small wonders of life. The name of the song stands as a metaphor creating a union between lovers who are overcoming their differences. The song is inspirational in many aspects and reflects a beautiful story on love as well as discrimination. The song has a punchy soundscape with an immersive drumline and production beat. The song is now available on all major platforms for you to enjoy.
