Recently a new political squabble emerged as West Bengal Government has cancelled the show of famous singer Arijit Singh, scheduled to be held at Kolkata’s Eco Park for early next year. This announcement has further given flame to the political squabble where BJP claims that Arijit Singh is paying price for singing ‘Rang De Tu Mohe Gerua’ in the inauguration show of KIFF, 2022. In the show, a lot of Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Rani Mukherjee were present, as reported by news agencies.
BJP’s West Bengal IT cell chief and the party’s observer Amit Malviya has ignited this topic and claimed that the show was canceled due to his recent performance at the KIFF inauguration. Twitter got overflowed with controversy and it has further created a sensation among all his fans. As per Amit Malviya’s tweet on Wednesday that ‘Sr Bachchan was on dot when he spoke about shrinking space for civil liberties and freedom of expression at the Kolkata Film Festival… Arijit Singh who sang ‘Rang De Tu Mohe Gerua’, with Mamata Banerjee on the dais now finds his show at Eco Park canceled by HIDCO, a WB Govt body’.
In this scenario IANS, Khan has said ‘Why has Arijit Singh’s show at Eco Park been canceled by WB govt body HIDCO? The result of Arijit humming ‘Rang De Tu Mohe Gerua’ in front of ‘Her Excellency’ at KIFF? Intolerance scales new heights’.
After all these problems Firhad Hakim, the state Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister and Kolkata Mayor said that there was nothing like that what the BJP is trying to say. No one has conspired against the political party and made Arijit Singh sing that song. And along with that, no one has submitted a formal application to HIDCO about any kind of music concert.
Firhad Hakim has also said ‘The organizers only informed the local cops verbally. The show takes place during the New Year’s celebrations, when a large crowd gathers at Eco Park. Furthermore, the timing will coincide with the G20 summit. As a result, the police have asked the organizers to find another location. There is no political motive behind this’.
