Controversy Arises with Actress Kim Tae Ri’s Agency asking for “Free Labor From Fans”

Actress Kim Tae Ri has recently got involved in a controversy with “asking for free labor” for a new project on YouTube. Apparently, she asked fans from all over the world to help with subtitling on her YouTube Channel.

There was a post on Instagram under Kim’s profile that asked fans to help subtitle her vlogs. However, the post has been deleted now. In the post, the actress announced that she wants her videos to be translated into as many languages as possible since she has fans all over the world. And the idea was to provoke fans to do the subtitling themselves for her videos.

The post also included her official website where Kim invited int interested fans to contact her to work in either English or Korean for her videos. She further asked to send the subtitles along with email and socials.

While this company offers no monetary fee or compensation for the job, Kim’s agency only said that fans would be credited at the end of the subtitles. However, it did not impress people at all. Korean netizens did not miss any chance to express their disappointment in Kim as she is asking for free labor while her channel is receiving more profits from YouTube.

As the fire spread on the internet rapidly, her company management mmm had to post another official statement on May 23, 2023, to resolve the issue. They further clarified the fact that the vlog does not generate profit. The project for ‘So This Is The Place?’ was solely created to help global fans. They said, “Tae-ri’s commitment to her fans has been the sole driving force’.

The statement further read, “The only intent behind the request for translation help was to make the vlogs more accessible to international fans. Despite our intentions, however, we acknowledge and deeply regret the unintended distress this announcement caused to numerous individuals.”

Talking about compensation, they said, “We would like to emphasize that it was never our intention to take advantage of anyone in the process of making ‘So This Is The Place?’. When there were circumstances that required compensation, we ensured that it was provided in a fair manner.”
