Death By Obesity: ‘American Idol’ Alum Mandisa’s Cause Of Death Shook The Internet

The former “American Idol” contestant died in April from complications of class III obesity. According to an autopsy report she had been suffering from several conditions due to her obesity yet, detectives were searching whether there was any sort of foul play in her early demise or not. However, it is now established that the singer’s manner of death is natural. The report said, the singer “was last known alive approximately three weeks” before her death came to the public eye. During that time a representative said, “At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details,”

Now that her autopsy report has been published, it confirms the belief of her father John Hundley that his daughter didn’t harm herself in any way. He expressed his thoughts in May on a Digital News Platform. He also said that the detectives, who were investigating the case, “looked for signs that she may have harmed herself, and there were no signs to indicate that she did anything” of that nature.

At the celebration of her life and the work, Mandisa’s father mentioned that according to him his daughter might have fallen “down in her bedroom.” Tennessee police confirmed there was not a single sign of any sort of foul play in her death.

The Cleveland Clinic defines that her Class III Obesity had reached a chronic condition. This means a person has a body mass index of 40 or higher in other words; the person has a BMI of 35 or higher. This position can lead to several obesity-related health conditions which can be life-threatening as well. The clinic says, “Class III obesity can contribute to several serious health conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.”

Everyone paid a musical tribute to her memory, in the homage performance former contestants Melinda Doolittle, Colton Dixon, and Danny Gokey contributed their time, music, and memories of Mandisa. They all collectively delivered a cover of  Mary Mary’s ‘Shackles (Praise You)’, Mandisa performed this number in her season. After the performance, Dixon said, “I think she came in praising, I think she left praising.” Then he added more by saying, “We’re gonna miss her, but our loss is heaven’s gain.”
