Elton John showcases his vulnerable side on social media post and tells the world that it is okay to go through tough periods at times. The legendary singer and songwriter recently shared a candid behind-the-scenes video footage of him having a breakdown as he struggled to create a musical piece. In the clip posted on social media, the ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ singer was seen slamming his headphones down and saying “I’m going home.”

The video came in correspondent with the announcement of his new studio album ‘Who Believes in Angels?’ with Brandi Charlie. The labrum is scheduled to release on April 4th and was devised by “close friends and regular collaborators” John, Grammy-winning artist Carlile, and Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Andrew Watt. Bernie Taupin, John’s collaborator for a long time also contributed to the album’s lyrics. The songs were recorded in October 2023, at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles.

John has also permitted a short film to be made about his process of making the album in his recording and writing sessions for the first time. “I wanted this album to be special, but you can’t guarantee when you go in the studio that something’s gonna be special,” the singer says in a voiceover clip. “Reality is, I was exhausted. I had a lot of doubt. I was a nightmare.”

In one scene from the clip, Andrew Watt can be heard telling the singer, “Dude, I’m just trying to make the song as best it can be, you’re so impatient!” A visibly grouchy John was seen in another clip where the legendary singer snaps at Watt after he asks if he’s ready to record: “Why do you think I’m sitting here?” “Angry, I was tired, I was irritable,” the “I’m Still Standing” singer confesses. “Elton was prone to moments of insecurity, especially when the stakes were high,” Carlile says. “There were times I thought, ‘Why does he want to do this? Why? Why has he gone from Glastonbury to making an album with me.”

At the Glastonbury Festival, the EGOT-winning star performed the final show of his farewell tour at the Pyramid Stage. The Independent reviewed the performance with a perfect score saying it was “the glitziest, most high-energy retirement party the world has ever seen”.

However, the musician was still exhausted from the two-hour show and his entire tour and he admitted there was “tension in the studio” when he and his creative partners got to work on this new album. “I’m going home,” he announces to Watt in the film. Things soon turned around when he realized, “There’s other people involved. I can’t abandon it. And the fog started to lift. Once we got going, Jesus.” He added: “I wanted to play better, sing better, write better, and challenge myself at the age I am. Brandi really pushed me. For me it’s immaculate. This came out the way I wanted it to come out.”

In another emotional moment, John was seen sobbing at the keyboard as Carlile hugged him. “This never happened to me in my whole career,” he says, wiping the tears away. “Is that OK?” he asks, which makes Carlile and Watt laugh.
