Celine Dion announces the cancellation of her “Courage World Tour” and refunds for the tickets bought as her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome continues.
As Celine Dion’s struggle with her rare neurological condition continues, the Canadian singer has canceled all her upcoming tours for 2023 and 2024. A source close to the star has disclosed to CNN Friday that given the frail condition of her health, the ‘My Heart Will Go On’ singer “will likely never tour again”, and despite being on therapy, she had been suffering from a lot of pain.
Dion, who was lately diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, an incurable neurological condition that causes muscle stiffness and spasms, took to Instagram to announce the cancellation of her “Courage World Tour” with a post captioned:
“It is with tremendous disappointment that we have to announce today the cancellation of the Courage World Tour.
I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!” – Celine xx…”
Her team also announced that those who had purchased the tickets for the forty-two canceled dates will be refunded via the original point of sale. The announcements were made in both English and French and soon after the comment section was flooded with heartfelt messages from fans wishing her a speedy recovery, with one of them saying: “I hope your voice shines again ❤”.
After Dion canceled the European leg of her Courage World Tour shows in December till August 2023, she announced her illness to the public through a video, saying that her condition no longer allows her to sing the way she was used to and had been the reason for the spasms that she had been suffering from. She further added, “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
Dion first opened up about her symptoms in October 2021 when she had to postpone the beginning of her Las Vegas show due to “severe and persistent” muscle spasms. Though so far there are no permanent cures for Stiff Person Syndrome, the severity of the condition is said to be alleviable with the help of immune therapies and chemical interventions.
