The event of the 2025 Grammy Awards was held yesterday and Queen Bey made history! Held at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles, the night awarded breakout music stars of 2024 and Beyoncé just made history as a black woman in music. The ‘Drunk in Love’ singer was leading the nominations with 11 nods, thanks to her 2024 superhit album Cowboy Carter. Now the star has scripted history by winning the Best Country Album trophy. This makes the singer the first black woman to win a country music category in half a century!

Beyoncé also won the Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration ‘II Most Wanted’ with Miley Cyrus. While she was the most awarded Grammy artist in history by setting the record with her album Renaissance in 2023, she now extended her record by upping the number of Grammy awards to 35. She won three awards during the 2025 ceremony.

The global music superstar also finally won the prestigious Album of the Year award for Cowboy Carter after years of her being nominated for the top award but never actually winning. This win on Sunday also finally takes away her record as the most nominated female artist in the album of the year category without a win. Queen Bey was previously nominated for ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’, ‘Beyoncé’, ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Renaissance’.

“I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years,” the artist said while accepting the long-awaited award. “I just wanna thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, all of the hard work. I want to dedicate this to Ms. [Linda] Martell, and I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors. God bless y’all. Thank you so much.”

While accepting her award as the first Black woman to win the Best Country Album Grammy for ‘Cowboy Carter’ the artist said, “Wow, I really was not expecting this.” “Wow, I wanna thank God — Oh my God! — that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years. Oh my God!” She continued, “I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about, and to stay persistent. Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators… thank you! This wouldn’t have been this album without you. I’d like to thank God again and my fans, and I still am in shock. So thank you so much for this honor.”

In other highlights from the ceremony, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for ‘Die With A Smile’. While accepting the award, Gaga spoke in support of the LGBTQ+ Community. “Trans people are not invisible,” she said. “Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love.”

The legendary Quincy Jones had a tribute at the night where Will Smith made an appearance during one of the event’s most impactful segments. Janelle Monáe, Herbie Hancock, Cynthia Erivo, and Stevie Wonder joined to give their tributes through moving performances. Apart from this, the ongoing rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake added an extra element of excitement to the evening. Lamar triumphed, taking home five awards, including Song and Record of the Year. “I dedicate this one to the city,” he declared, paying tribute to his Compton heritage. With this latest achievement, Lamar joins Jay-Z and Ye among the few rappers to surpass 20 Grammy wins.
