The Association of Independent Music (AIM) Awards is best known for recognizing the best musical talents in the industry and the 2024 event in London was quite ecstatic. The 14th edition of the annual music award show was held at London’s Roundhouse venue on Thursday, October 17.

AIM Award recognizes the singers, rappers, music producers, and all kinds of music artists who have made significant contributions in the sector of independent music. When it comes to the UK’s indie sector, Neneh Cherry and Sparks have secured their awards with their trailblazing music career.

Cherry joked, “I guess it’s better to be a pioneer than an old bag,” while receiving the AIM award. The talented artist further added, “I also want to say that, without the independent music community, I’m not sure where I would be. So peace and power to independent thought, independent music, and all those who support it.”

USA’s exciting dup Sparks has also received an award and they took this moment to announce their global deal with Transgressive Records. They have already started working on the next studio album which will be released next year. The title for the music project has not been decided yet but it will be distributed by Firebird Label Services.

British R&B singer Smith has gained a lot of attention by winning the AIM Award for the best independent album. She was chosen for her sophomore album project that was released in 2023 called ‘Falling or Flying’ which was released via FAMM. She thanked the label “for believing in me from all these years ago to now.”

On the other hand, Sampha has received the honor for his hit single “Spirit 2.0” which was released in the last year. The artist also got an award for the best independent video with his music video for ‘Only’. Electronic music producer Barry Can’t Swim has secured the award for independent breakthrough. There is also Pendulum who received the public-voted best live performer title.

Independent artists might not get the chance of recognition without an independent label that is ready to support them. This year’s award for best independent label went to Heavenly Recordings, the best record shop went to Drift in Totnes and Devon became the U.K.’s best independent record store. The community support in the independent music community is paramount and that was widely visible at the AIM Awards. Check out the award list for winners for more details.
