Meta has recently introduced a brand new feature on Facebook named ‘Music Revenue Sharing’ to help creator monetize their videos that use licensed music. It allows both the creators and music rights holders to earn money from Facebook through the videos.
The new feature ‘Music Revenue Sharing’ is powered by a video, audio and image-matching tool called Rights Manager, developed by Facebook. The tool will help content creators and owners protect and manage their rights and content. Facebook Reels are not eligible for monetization right now.
The video creators must match the monetisation eligibility standards of Meta to avail of the revenue sharing feature. A total of 20 per cent revenue share will be received by the creators of the eligible videos. The videos have to be 60 seconds and longer. A separate share of revenue will go to music rights holders and Meta.
Meta said, ‘To start, eligible videos will monetise from in-stream ads in the US, and will then expand to the rest of the world where music is available on Facebook in the coming months,” Meta said.’
The Facebook videos need to have a visual component and the song they feature in the video need to be a part of the Licensed Music library within Creator Studio. When a user uploads a video on Facebook, the Creator Studio and support inbox will send them a notification if the song can be eligible for Music Revenue Sharing. More information is available on Meta for Creators blog.
