Indian music fans are shocked that the Grammy Awards authority has excluded table maestro Ustaad Zakir Hussain from the ‘In Memoriam’ section. On the 2nd of February, the Grammy 2025 took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. In the Grammys, a particular section is there where they pay tribute to the music legends who have passed away in the previous year. Ustaad Zakir Hussain was known as the tabla maestro who has stunned global listeners with his work. Unfortunately, the tabla player died on the 15th of December. As the Grammys have excluded him, everyone became quite shocked.
This year, the lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin came onto the stage to pay tribute to the music artists from the ‘In Memoriam’ category. While he performed it, he gave tribute to artists like Cissy Houston, Liam Payne, Joe Chambers, Kris Kristofferson, Tito Jackson,Ella Jenkins, Jack Jones, Marianne Faithfull, Mary Martin, and Seiji Ozawa. But the artists didn’t mention the name of Zakir Hussain. Right after that, all the Indian fans expressed their opinion on the social media platforms, which has created a huge buzz recently.
One of the Indian music fans wrote on X that says ‘How come there was no mention of Zakir Hussain in the Grammy obituary? #Grammys2025 He was a winner just last year’. Another one said ‘Dude, where the hell is Ustaad Zakir Hussain???’ One also added ‘Mind-boggling that Zakir Hussain wasn’t given a tribute tonight. He won four Grammys himself and was a huge influence even on Western culture’.
A user on X added and expressed their feeling by saying ‘How did you guys forget to include #GRAMMYs winner from 2024, Ustad Zakir Hussain, in your ‘In Memoriam’ segment? @RecordingAcad #Grammys2025 @coldplay’. It can be said that Indian fans are distressed after knowing this and said ‘Just last year, Zakir Hussain won three Grammys, and he didn’t even get included in the tribute section. Idiots!’ It can be said that people are furious with this decision.
This has been even more stunning for all as at the 66th Grammys, Zakir Hussain won three Grammys in a single evening. He won the awards in the categories of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, Best Global Music Album, and Best Global Music Performance. Everyone is quite shocked that how can anyone exclude such an artist from the list.
