HAERTS inside the World Cafe Performance Studio
Brooklyn and Berlin-based indie-pop duo HAERTS that emerged in the scene with relative silence back in 2018 with the release of their first single titled For the Sky have now geared up to release their latest album Dream Nation that shall be released on March 12, 2021. Along with the announcement of their album, the duo has also shared the second single from the album titled It’s Too Late.
HAERTS is formed by the German duo who first met in high school and went ahead to attend the Berklee School of Music in Boston together and then finally moving to New York. Their self-titled debut had got its release back in 2014.
So far the band’s love for pop hooks has earned them several comparisons to electro-pop inclined Fleetwood Mac, but with their latest project, the duo seems to be more influenced by the trip-hop of Portishead and Lamb. The band has let it all go and hasn’t retrained from exploring new boundaries and has thereby come up with a record that touches the audience both physically and emotionally. The record sounds like an invitation into the fantastical and bizarre night-time world and is best suited for the mood before the lights come on when the polish and all things glittery is gone. It’s more of a nocturnal vibe that the band has taken to create this record.
The single explores slow drums and upbeat keyboards accompanied by Nini Fabi’s highly alluring vocals that appealingly flow throughout the track. The bass line thrums poignantly and the instruments take on a quite familiar tone as singer Fabi describes a failing and falling-apart relationship, and considers going back. The way her voice sways over the enchanting drums is a major highlight and her vocal range purely highlights the dilemma that she finds herself within, expressed beautifully with the verses.
The track is a fine example of well the duo blend with each other’s approach. The song sees some vibrant drum set up with a steady bass groove and a looping hook that makes for a prominent danceable turn for the Indie pop duo. What eminently keeps the flavor of the track so organic and alluring is the guitar strings, the piano sound, of course, Fabi’s high-quality vocals that draw the listener into the late-night dance floor and create an ambiance precisely weaved with fragments of a failed romantic bond. The intriguing songwriting and the pinching lyrics are sure to catalyst the dopamine rush.
The track It’s Too Late is HAERTS first single from their upcoming album For The Sky that features Ed Droste. The album Dream Nation will be the band’s third album post their 2018’s New Compassion. There are many songs included in Dream Nation that have been written over the time for a month while in New Orleans, where the album was however finished in Los Angeles.
According to Nini Fabi, the track has been written and tracked during the last night in New Orleans and that they wanted the track to feel like a late-night dance groove. They even emphasized the fact that the song has tried to capture the essence and the sentimental feelings of looking back and pondering on questions like did I give enough, did I love enough, did I feel enough, but in that particular moment, everything’s good because the night isn’t over yet, and there is still time you can dance to the harmonies to forget the pain.
