Christmas is here and so is Mariah Carey’s famous hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. The song is back at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Read to know why.

Mariah Carey is back at the top again with her famous holiday hit All I Want For Christmas Is You has reached the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. The song is topping the chart for the fourth year in a row. The song also made history as the first song in history to have separate runs on the chart for 4 consecutive years, from 2019 to 2022.

Carey first released the track in her 1994 Christmas album ‘Merry Christmas’ but it was not until recently that the track started to chart. In recent years, technological changes, streaming services, and the general holiday spirit have helped the song turn into a hallmark.

Carey was also the first artist to break the tradition by releasing original holiday music. Previously most artists used to cover Christmas standard music and that bet turned out to be the right decision. According to the report released by The Economist in 2017, the artist has gotten $60 million since its release in royalties.

Gary Trust, the senior director of Billboard’s charts said Christmas has become a part of Mariah Carey’s identity to millions of people and compared her to a “modern-day” Santa Claus. The song’s popularity was maintained by the listeners’ and fans’ love and the habit to play it constantly. They also increase the track’s popularity by taking part in meme culture every year. The singer also takes part herself where she announces the start of the holiday season the very moment Halloween ends.

The song first reached the Billboard chart and entered the top ten in the Hot 100 in 2017 and placed itself in the top 5 the next year. It has held the top spot on the holiday charts since 2019.
