Last month at Nagaland’s annual Hornbill Festival Imnainla Jamir performed the opening of the 10-day festival. Since then, she has experienced mounting views from all over the world for an electrifying rendition of the Indian National Anthem. The powerful performance has been appreciated by people from around the globe as she came up with a wonderful musical essence.
Jamir used electric guitar while Indian National Anthem has always been regarded as a cultural symbol of India. The new fusion of western instruments with the most iconic Indian identification was not just loved by the Indians but also by the world. Being an emerging star her skills were truly magnificent.
This was the 23rd edition of the 10-day festival Hornbill. And the musical ceremony was inaugurated on the 1st of December. For years Hornbill has been a traditional meet-up where you will get to experience several aspects of folklore including tribal dances, music, and delicacies. As a sign of the world-changing Imnainla Jamir has performed flawlessly, these are the core pillars of this festival. The Mokokchung guitarist shared her thoughts after experiencing this supped popularity for her musical brilliance.
She said, “The reactions have been overwhelming. I have received appreciation not only in person but also over different social media platforms.” She continued and confessed that she didn’t have much time while she was trying “to master the piece.” And she was extremely nervous about the reactions she is going to get whether people will appreciate her or reject this piece. But after being encouraged by the world she is willing to cover other patriotic numbers as well.
In 1969, Jimi Hendrix played ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at the end of Woodstock. That day he recreated the sound of the wars with his guitar and left the crowd speechless as his guitar cried and wailed for 3 minutes straight. Jamir made a similar impact with her impactful rendition of the Indian National Anthem piece as she flawlessly succeeded to recreate those similar effects on India Last December. Music always had the power to unify people, whether it is a wailing 3 minutes U.S.A. anthem or a 54 Seconds Indian Anthem. Her efforts have truly impacted the crowd and after Alobo Naga, someone is all set to put that crown of glory once again.
