Google Celebrates The Legacy Of KK With A Special Doodle

On 25th October, Google Doodle honoured one of the most famous and versatile Indian playback singers Krishnakumar Kunnath who was much famously known by the world as KK. The singer was born on August 23, 1968, in Delhi. He was known for his soulful voice and romantic songs. He attended Kirori Mal College. But before his break in the music industry, he had taken a different route when came to careers. KK gave the marketing industry a shot before getting completely into music. The beginning of his journey took place on the stage of a reality show called, ‘Awaaz India in 1995.

In 1994, KK submitted a demo tape to popular artists and began performing commercial jingles. The globally acclaimed music director, A.R. Rahman noticed his talent and gave him his first break in the film ‘Kadhal Desam’ in 1996. This marked the start of his successful career. He ended up singing many songs, over 500 in Hindi, and more than 200 in regional languages like Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, and Bengali. His unique voice conveyed deep emotions, making him perfect for romantic songs. Known as the ‘King of Romance,’ KK’s hits include ‘cc from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ in 1999 and ‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’ from ‘Gangster’ in 2006. KK also released pop albums like ‘Pal’ in 1999 which quickly became a sensation. The album’s title track and the song ‘Yaaron’ became timeless anthems of friendship and nostalgia, resonating with audiences across generations.

‘Humsafa’in 2008, showcased his versatility. He received many awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for ‘Tadap Tadap Ke.’ The doodle marks the anniversary of KK’s Bollywood debut, which took place on this day in 1996 when he lent his voice to the song ‘Chhod Aaye Hum’ for the acclaimed political thriller Maachis, directed by Gulzar. His ability to convey profound emotions through music earned him numerous accolades, including six nominations for the prestigious Filmfare Awards and two Star Screen Awards.

Tragically, KK passed away after delivering a final performance in Kolkata. In honor of his contributions to Indian music, a statue was erected in the city where he last performed, celebrating the unforgettable legacy he left behind.Through this animated doodle, Google pays homage to KK’s artistic journey and the lasting impact he made in the world of Indian music, ensuring that his remarkable talent and memorable songs continue to inspire fans around the globe.
