Bengaluru-based artist Amrapali Shindhe brought her origin to the international stage and made the Indians proud. The Lollapalooza 2025 offered a power-packed performance by Shindhe and the music lovers went crazy. She carried a deep-rooted love for Kannada music and embraced history and culture through her performance.
Lollapalooza is a music festival that is dominated by English and Hindi music and Punjabi as well but this time Amrapali Shindhe brought Kannada music to this stage, offering a new taste to the audience. She offered an unapologetic performance in this language and shared her experience of singing in various languages.

She said, “I actually did two Kannada songs and one Hindi song. I mixed a lot of languages — Kannada, English, Hindi, and even a bit of Spanish.“ And further added, “That was really fun because every artiste at Lollapalooza is very defined; they either perform in English or Hindi, and there was no other language being represented.”
Shindhe’s performance was not about showing her musical versatility but about creating a statement that can influence audiences. Considering Kannada as one of the top languages for Linguistic debates, the artist said, “I truly believe, despite what some in the industry say, that Kannada won’t reach the level of international recognition that Hindi, English, Tamil, or Telugu have. I disagreed.”
She further emphasized and said, “Why not? Why aren’t more artists from Karnataka taking their language and bringing it to a global level? If every other language can do it, so can we.”

She was born in Delhi and raised in the UK but her true Kannada always stayed with her. “At home, I speak Kannada, but I’m actually Maharashtrian. Since I come from the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, I’ve grown up with a mix of cultures.”
Talking about her struggles, the artist said, “One definite challenge I faced while singing in Kannada was that, while I knew how to speak it fluently, I never learnt to read or write it.” However, Shindhe is currently gaining at full throttle on her musical journey and nothing can stop her now.
