“It was surreal”: Lisa Mishra on Sharing Stage with Ed Sheeran

Lisa Mishra, the singer-songwriter celebrated for her soulful voice and viral music fusions, opened for British star Ed Sheeran during his India tour earlier this year. In an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, she described the experience as “surreal.” Additionally, Lisa took the stage at Lollapalooza India on Sunday, marking another major milestone in her career. “It was surreal. He (Ed Sheeran) has been such a massive influence, and to be part of his concert was beyond a dream. The energy of the crowd, his warmth; it was all so magical”, Lisa said in the interview. She shared that performing on such a large stage deepened her passion for live shows and the powerful connection they create with audiences.

Alongside this achievement, Lisa performed at Lollapalooza India on March 9, a festival that has rapidly grown into a major platform for artists in the country. Before the show, she shared her excitement about the opportunity. “I think the goal is always to do more and go bigger than my last performance. Opening for Ed Sheeran was an incredible experience, but my set at Lollapalooza is entirely my own. I’m not opening for anyone, which makes the pressure even greater,” the singer told India Today Digital.

She explained, “A lot of people might assume that performing before Ed Sheeran was the most high-pressure moment for me, but in reality, my own set at Lollapalooza comes with a lot more at stake. I have to prove myself as an artist in every way, ensuring the music sounds great, the visuals are stunning, the dancers are on point, the backing vocalists are tight, and the stage design is flawless. Everything has to be perfect because it’s all under my control. Lollapalooza marks a major milestone in my musical journey, and the responsibility to make it unforgettable rests entirely on me and my hard work.”

Lisa shared how deeply the festival resonated with her. “It’s a huge step for the Indian music scene. To be on the same lineup as international artistes and see that kind of enthusiasm from Indian audiences it just reinforces the fact that our music has global appeal,” she said. She highlighted the festival’s collaborative vibe, sharing how it allowed her to connect with fellow artists and explore diverse sounds. “It’s not just about performing; it’s about learning, growing, and celebrating music together,” the ‘SajnaVe singer added.

Lisa Mishra further discussed how streaming platforms and global exposure are transforming musical tastes and fueling the rise of concert culture in India and beyond. She said, “I think globalisation and easy access to music from around the world are driving this change. We’re sitting in India and listening to Bad Bunny, even though he’s never collaborated with an Indian artist. It all comes down to exposure. Earlier, we didn’t have as much access, but now, streaming platforms have made it effortless to discover global music. You can simply check the global charts, listen to the top 50 trending songs, and end up becoming a fan of an artist you had never heard of before.”

Known for her Bollywood mashups and hit ‘Tareefan Reprise’, Lisa has built a distinct place in the Indian music industry. Talking about her evolution as an artist, Lisa said, “When I first started out, I never imagined I’d be performing at such massive events or collaborating with some of the biggest names in music. It has been an incredible journey, filled with surprises and learning experiences. Every project I take on helps me grow in new ways.”
