In her show, the singer Kelly Clarkson covers the hit song ‘99 Red Balloons’ officially sung by Nena. In The Kelly Clarkson Show, she has astounded people with her performance of the song.

As usual; she was backed by her band Y’all. The voice of the singer has taken the audiences’ attention entirely. At a point, she belted out an 8-second long high note. The playing of red and blue light that flashed behind her made the whole setting look accentuated.

The audiences were silenced as soon as she got into the rhythm. They were lost in her performance of her.  Released in the year 1983, during the cold war “99 Red Balloons” has long been interpreted as a song that does not support the war. The lyrics of the song portray violence instinctively- “The war machine springs to life/ Opens up one eager eye/ Focusing it on the sky/ When 99 red balloons go by.”

The lyrics of the song are poignant sitting amidst the Ukraine-Russia crisis, the artist’s intention is proven. The world is currently threatened by the war and turning into something bigger.

The song in 1984 peaked to no.2 position and stayed on the chart for 23 weeks. The song is officially sung by Nena and titled it 99 Lufballons’. She reportedly mentioned in 2016 that the song was her personal feelings, but sounds more like her protest against the war.

As the song became very famous in 1984, in an interview in 2016, She spoke to billboard, “I don’t want to say I never liked it, “But I never felt it. I would never have done a translation since I love the song in German, but we got someone to translate it. Although, Americans always say they prefer the German version.”

The horror of the war is threatening people again. Many celebrities and sportspersons have shown their protest and views on this matter. So, it can be said the performance of the cover is her way of protest.

Anyway, she has sung the song exhibiting her versatility and love for the song. she made people stunned for a moment with her performance. Even, Kelly Clarkson was looking appealing visually, wearing a black gown. Black was worn by her probably to mean her despair over the evil and darkness of war.
