Kesha’s ‘Tik Tok’ Had Its ‘Best Streaming Day’ On Spotify

Kesha may not have followed the best dental practices on Wednesday morning of 7^th August. But that is not a thing to be concerned about especially when she dropped a very posh yet wild video of hers on Tik Tok brushing her teeth with Jack Daniels. The pop star celebrated her 2009 smash ‘TikTok’ surpassing a billion streams on Spotify by recreating one of its most iconic lyrics for fans.  In the clip fittingly posted to TikTok, Kesha walks into her bathroom and unboxes her honorary Spotify plaque, complete with a silver dish in the center made to look like the streaming service’s logo. She then pulls out a bottle of whiskey, pours a helping into the dish, and swirls her toothbrush around in it before proceeding to brush her teeth with the alcohol. She even jokes by saying ‘Swallow, don’t spit.’

The video comes exactly 15 years after the California native dropped ‘Tik Tok,’ earning her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song went on to reign atop the chart for nine weeks. ‘TiK ToK was the first single that I put into this world that had my voice AND my name credited!!!!’  Kesha wrote on X in honor of the track’s anniversary. ‘I remember making it fun and happy because that’s how I felt and wanted others to feel. What I’m so proud of is that’s how this song STILL makes me feel, through it all, and those are emotions I want all of us to connect to. 15 (!!!!!!) years later, I see this song as a snapshot into the way I saw the world at the time.’

‘That girl was naive and wild and playful,’ she continued. ‘This song eternalizes a side of myself that I love very much, and now see I have to protect fiercely … my first baby stands for so much. It stands for fiercely protecting my fun and unadulterated joy, in myself and in others.’ Kesha also revealed that she plans to re-record the track ‘when I have legal rights to.’ The new version would reflect the lyric change she’s been singing during live performances in light of the several abuse allegations and lawsuits against Diddy this year: ‘Wake up in the morning like, ‘F–k P. Diddy,’ as opposed to the original ‘… feeling like P. Diddy.’

The pop star kicked off her 2025 with a very good omen. After performing ‘Tik Tok’ on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve to ring in the year, her song earned its most streams ever on Spotify. Regarding this, she said, ‘It was 15 years ago that I got my first #1 song! YALL did that,’ Kesha wrote on X, sharing the statistic that the song earned nearly 2,000,000 streams on the platform on Wednesday. ‘And the fact that [Tik Tok] had its biggest streaming day EVER yesterday blows my mind.’
