Indian singer Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on Wednesday in Kolkata. The artist was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at a hospital in the city. He was fighting for his life and was also on a ventilator. The 55-year-old artist had to take oxygen support and at that moment he lost his last breath.

The private hospital authority has said ‘We tried our best but failed. He passed away at around 3:45 PM’. This news has broken the hearts of all Indian citizens. He was one of the proficient artists of the Indian music industry. Rashid Khan was in the industry for a long time and his contribution is undeniable.

The chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has said ‘Deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Ustad Rashid Khan, one of the greatest exponents of Indian classical music of our times… A hugely respected vocalist with unparalleled genius in creating music, he made us proud by settling here and making Bengal his home. He and Soma, his wife, and son Armaan, and the whole family, were close to us and allowed us to be on their side in the maestro’s last journey in life’.

The chief minister also added by saying ‘Ustad Rashid Khan got our highest civilian award Banga Bibhushan and our Sangeet Mahasamman too. He was attached to several of our State cultural bodies in advisory capacity… My profound condolences to Soma, Armaan Khan, and Ustad’s whole family as well as to the countless students and admirers that he leaves behind in the whole world… Ustad Rashid Khan was truly a world famous classical Indian vocal artist’.

From sources it is coming to know that he was experiencing a terrible condition right after his cerebral attack. He had a cerebral attack last month and within a month he lost his life. At the time of his death, he was undergoing treatment for his prostate cancer at the renowned institute Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. At the beginning of the treatment, he was making positive responses. And later, suddenly his condition deteriorated, which led to his heartbreaking incident.

Hails from Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, and he is the nephew of the artist Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. From a very early age, he received his training from Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan who was his maternal grand-uncle. He has always had an interest in music and for that reason; he started his training from a tender age. This sudden death will evidently make an impact on the Indian music industry.
