The only child of the American rock-n-roll legend Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie Presley, passes away at the age of 54. The grave news was announced by her mother, Priscilla Presley, but she did not cite the cause of death. American media revealed that she had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Born into the spotlight in 1968, Lisa Marie, following in the footsteps of her father, also became a singer and songwriter and has released three albums. Her debut album ‘To Whom It May Concern’ was released in 2003 and sold several thousands of copies and received immensely positive reviews. Presley was also known for her contributions to several charitable causes.

Her personal life came into the limelight with the advent of her series of illustrious marriages to musicians Danny Keough and Michael Lockwood, to the legendary pop singer Michael Jackson, and also to Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage. From her marriages, she had four children, including actress Riley Keough. Presley’s son, Benjamin Keough, committed suicide in 2020.

While sharing the devastating news, Presley’s mother praised her daughter as being “the most passionate, strong and loving woman” she had ever known and asked for privacy during this time of grief. According to the reports of TMZ, the singer was found in her bedroom motionless on Thursday morning. A spokesperson for Los Angeles emergency services informed that following reports of a woman having a cardiac arrest, a group of paramedics was dispatched to the artist’s home in Calabasas. After performing CPR, Presley was rushed to the hospital since they found “signs of life” in her.

As the news of her death became viral, tributes poured out from fans and friends of the artist from across the globe. Heartfelt condolences poured out from Tom Hanks, who starred in Elvis, a biopic made on her father, and also from his wife Rita Wilson. Celebrities like actor John Travolta, singer LeAnn Rimes, and actresses Leah Remini and Jennifer Tilly took to social media to express their grief and to send condolences.

Lisa Marie Presley made her last appearance at the Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, lauding Austin Butler’s act in Elvis, where he had played the role of her father. Appreciating his performance, the late singer told ET that it has taken her “five days to process it” because the performance was “so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic”.

Just days before her death, the singer had visited Graceland, a mansion that her late father owned at Memphis in Tennessee to celebrate what would have been the 88th birthday of the music legend.
