Lizzo in her SXSW Keynote sessions slammed the Texas’ new anti-trans legislation. She said, “I’m proud to rep Houston but I’m not proud to rep Texan politics right now”.

Last week, Texas signed into one of the most restrictive laws regarding abortion in the country which effectively criminalizes abortions happening within as early as six weeks of pregnancy.
Although the advocates of abortion rights have fought against the law, the decision made by the Supreme Court of Texas on 11th March defied the lawsuit brought by several abortion clinics seeking to block the embargo.
In February, the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott signed an order considering that Gender affirming surgeries for Young Trans people are as same as child abuse, and requires the help and support of doctors, nurse, and teachers. A state district judge had temporarily blocked the order on 11th March. However, Texas’ state attorney general said that he would appeal up to the Supreme Court.
Last week, Amy Clark Meachum, the Texas Judge, temporarily blocked the state from investigating the parents who provide their Trans children gender-affirming treatment.
The Houston singer, Lizzo slammed the decision of Texas for such a regressive approach in her keynote session
She said, “I’m proud to rep Houston but I’m not proud to rep Texan politics right now. There are very regressive laws being passed.”
She further added, “They’re taking away the right for young children to have a chance to live authentically as themselves. It’s a violation of human rights. Trans rights are human rights.”
She also slammed the authority for banning the termination of pregnancy after six weeks, without knowing the pregnancy was either caused by rape or incest. The law also says that one can be penalized with as much as 10,000 USD for any illegal abortion.
Lizzo said, “We got a lotta ugly babies y’all need to be handling instead of y’all being in people’s homes and telling them what to do with their bodies and being all up in their uteruses.”
During her talk, Lizzo confirmed the arrival of her upcoming album very soon.
