The very popular Lollapalooza Music Festival for this year announced the cancellation of rapper DaBaby’s upcoming performance after the authorities were taken aback following his recent homophobic remarks.
The organizers associated with the Chicago music festival said in a statement on Sunday morning that DaBaby’s comments do not resonate with the energy and spirit of the festival. This is the reason why his performance was canceled from the line-up which was supposed to go on stage on the event’s final night.
The statement read, ‘Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love. With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.”
The artist had gained some major audiences and acknowledgment over the past few years. Some of his musical contributions for which he is most famous include the hit song ‘Rockstar’. Another of his career’s greatest achievements includes his featuring in the hit song ‘Levitating’ by Dua Lipa. The controversy regarding him making homophobic comments emerged only last Sunday night. It took place at a music festival held in Miami.
Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love. With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight. In fact, there is also a video of him addressing the crowd with these remarks.
During his performance, he asked the audience to take out their phones and turn their flashlights on if they are someone without AIDS/HIV or any other sexually transmitted diseases that run the risk of killing a person within three weeks. His comments were not only insensitive butt caused many eyebrows to raise. According to the video that has now gone viral of the artist, he also makes degrading comments about homosexual women and men.
Just the following Monday, he apologized for saying such things on a public stage. In his Tweet, he also reconfirmed his love and support for homosexuals and that the disease that he mentioned in his rant makes people plunge into depression. He also said that he had no intentions of offending anyone.
His remarks were condemned by many celebrities including Elton John. According to him, he was horrified and taken aback at the lack of sensitivity and information in a statement by a fellow musician. Dua Lipa also reacted saying that it was horrifying for her.
DaBaby or his reps are yet to comment on the matter.
