Lat Mac Miller’s estate has announced that it will release Miller’s 2014 unreleased album, ‘Balloonerism,’ in 2025. His family wants the unreleased track of the American rapper to reach his fans. Following an accidental overdose, the talented rapper and singer tragically passed away in 2018, aged just 26 years. Four years before his unintentional passing, the rapper had worked on an album ‘Balloonerism’ that never got released and reached his ardent fans. Now, his family is taking charge and creating a change.
The family posted the announcement on social media and said that ‘Balloonerism’ will be released on January 17 next year. This will be exactly 11 years after it was “created around the time of the release of ‘Faces’”. The estate also announced that the album is available to pre-order now.
Mac Miller’s estate wrote, “It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm – to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately ‘GO:OD AM’ and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.” “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing ‘Balloonerism’ was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world,” it continued.
Mac Miller worked on ‘Balloonerism’ around the same time as ‘Faces’, the mixtape released in 2014, which most of his listeners and fans consider his best work to date. At the time of the mixtape’s release, Miller released it as a free digital download. However, in 2021, his family dropped the music project on vinyl and streaming services. In 2015, instead of going with ‘Balloonerism’, Miller chose to release ‘GO:OD AM’ as his next project while still signed to Warner.
The drop of ‘Balloonerism’ was first teased by the late rapper’s estate during Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw. An animated trailer featuring “The Song That Changed Everything” with SZA and “5 Dollar Pony Rides” played on screens before Tyler, the Creator took the stage for his headlining set, and the posthumous album release was teased. Miller’s family and estate shared the trailer on YouTube where the clip showcased a little boy with his sprawling imaginary life of human-like animals going on a journey through a carnival. “I’ve been runnin’, runnin’ runnin’/Running ’round,” the little boy sings in his journey. The video then jumps straight to the album cover.
Several versions of the project are offered on presale on the late rapper’s website. These versions include a 3D pop-up centerfold, a $150 deluxe edition with a foil-wrapped slipcase, a white splatter cloud vinyl, a 2-page booklet of photos and lyrics, and a poster. There is also a clear vinyl for $40 and a $15 CD listed on the website.
