Mastodon has become one of the defining metal bands of the last two decades, and Hinds has played a huge part in the band’s success and overall sound throughout the last 25 years. Not only is Hinds a founding member of the band, but he shares vocal duties on severalfan-favorite songs including ‘Once More Around The Sun,’‘Crack The Sky, ‘ and ‘The Wolf Is Loose’ among others. Given the band has several festival performances coming up, alongside an ambitious North American co-headlining tour with fellow progressive rockers CoheedAnd Cambria, Mastodon is likely looking for someone to fill Hind’s big shoes at this very moment.
All this news is even more shocking considering that Mastodon has been reportedly working on a new record for some time now. There’s no word on how far along the album is or when it’s expected to release, however, with Hinds leaving during the writing process, it begs the question of whether or not he’s even featured on the upcoming record. Surely, more details will be revealed in the coming weeks as to what led to this decision and who the band has in mind to replace Hinds.
With the long history, Mastodon’s founding members have shared together, Hinds’ exit will forever be a shocking moment in their legacy. Many bands who’ve lasted over 25 years usually go through many lineup changes, but Mastodon has been one of a few modern metal outfits that has kept its original lineup for over two decades.
