Becoming a Disney legend is one of the highest achievements of its own. It tastes even sweeter when you become the youngest ever to do so and Miley Cyrus did just that! When Lainey Wilson took the stage at D23 to introduce Cyrus just before her performance, the audience knew they were there for a good time. The artist met the expectations as well as she performed her own rendition of “Hannah Montana” classic “The Best of Both Worlds.” However, it was after the performance that Wilson told the singer, “Miley, I want to thank you for never being afraid to step outside the box, always staying true to yourself, and most importantly, always kicking butt.”
“I’m gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know. And what I want to say, is that legends get scared, too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day. It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try,” Miley Cyrus said as she wiped the tears off of her face. “In 2005, Disney was on a mission to rebuild the company. That’s why they hired Bob Iger, and me,” the singer then continued with a laugh as she recalled her casting in the legendary role of “Hannah Montana.” “I stand here still proud to have been ‘Hannah Montana,’” Cyrus said. “This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life,’” the singer added, giving a clever reference to the ‘Hannah Montana’ song with the same name.
At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, it was indeed a star-studded ceremony on Sunday. Miley Cyrus was honored as the youngest-ever Disney legend alongside Angela Bassett, Colleen Atwood,- the world-renowned costume designer, Disney Parks cast member Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Cameron, Harrison Ford, Famous animator Mark Henn, Marvel comic artist Steve Ditko, Kelly Ripa, Frank Oz, Imagineer Joe Rohde and John Williams. It was the night dedicated to Disney’s Legends awards program, a hall of fame that is devoted to individuals for their significant contributions and impact on the Disney legacy. Past Honorees of the same award included Stan Lee, Oprah Winfrey, Christina Aguilera, and Betty White.
